Cleaning CVs & replacing cv boots

ive got a busted CV boot and im planing to swap it out this weekend.
reading my workshop manual (gregorys) it says that you shouldnt use solvent to clean the CV.
does anyone know why? is there some plastic/rubber components in there that could be damaged?

Also anyone got any tips or trips for this job? i think ive read all the previous posts on it.
and it doesnt sound to bad apart from the diff plugs?

and are the factory diff plugs magnetic?

Its not a hard job. In and out within about 2 hours for both sides. You will need a big socket for the CV nut though. I cant remember the size sorry. Might be 36.

When I was looking into replacing mine I just went down the replace the whole shafts. Complete units. Makes the job easy and get warranty on the units.

If you can get a hold of someone with a trade account at Ripco, you will save some big dollars.
