  • High Country trips advice please

I will be visiting the High Country in the first week of May and would like some advice regarding some good tracks to drive. We are staying at Harrietville for two nights, Dargo for 3 nights, followed by Omeo and Buchan for one night each. Our plan is to do day trips from each town. We are doing the trip with other members of the Toyota Land Cruiser Club (Qld). Not looking for anything too extreme, just want to enjoy the drive and at the same time look after our vehicles. On the day we transit from Harrietville to Dargo I was considering doing the Blue Rag track up to the Trig Point and then back to continue along the Basalt Knob track to Talbotville and then on to Dargo via Grant. Is this too much for one day?

    Cheers

    Jim

In December 2012 we did sort of the reverse to that. We went from Collins Flat Camping Area (just north of Dargo) to Grant, Talbotville, Mount Blue Rag then on to Mount Hotham and Omeo (and past that). This is a lot further than you are planning to do. It was a big day, but your trip will be much, much shorter. On that trip South Basalt Knob Track was in very poor condition and we could not get up it, so do not plan on using it (use North Basalt Knob Track and Brewery Track). Hope this helps.
