  • Single Sided Rear Storage Drawer

Hi All, Ive searched high and low and can't seem to find a perfect solution to my needs. Im after a storage solution for the Prado that allows me to do the following.

•#Use one of the rear seats on occasion, both seats with a little forward planning (so I would like to keep the rear seats in the vehicle).
•#Sliding top, or fridge slide, preferably a sliding top.
•#Single sided only. At least one surfboard lives permanently in my car. I won't have 3 kids for this reason (kind of joking, but not really). The centre seat is always down as the surfboard is alway there. It's fantastic at separating the kids too.

I want the drawer to handle the necessities, whilst also providing a safe platform for the fridge. I also regularly drop the middle seats and throw a couple of bikes in the back for my son and I, so having a double drawer setup would mean I would lose this ability.

A single drawer would allow me to store things in the back that are currently loose in the back, leaving the opposite side available for whatever I need it for.

Has anyone found a safe and reliable solution as per the above?

    Cheers!

Just as a side thought - could anyone tell me if they think the following would work...

Build a platform that runs across the back providing a secure tie down for the the drawer, but hinged in the middle, meaning that if I need the rear seat, I would undo the platform on the side without a drawer and "fold up" that half of the platform (somehow then securing it to the side of the drawer so that it stays up). Providing access to that seat. Then fold it back down when not in use... in my head, the concept works. But then again, plenty of things work in my head, just not in reality.

You could get a Titan drawer with a sliding top?

There is a guy on here who had a passenger side rear draw and allowed him to have driver side dicky seat down. He messaged me the pics on the build but I cant find it. It can be done. Keep looking.
I will see if I can find the message he sent me.

I spoke with the guys at Drifta and as helpful as they were, they weren't sure (yet) of a way I could secure them without removing the seats. Ive got a few ideas, but no garage to build them in at present... I also want that really professional finish that I'll never achieve (not just because I do things half-assed, but mainly cause I do things half-assed).

Because the way the 150 seats fold into the floor, it makes it hard to secure things without impeding on the seats.

Hey @antd I run a Drifta two drawer system & SD-DCB for the Prado 150 which is their removable version and mounts via the tie down buckles. I have three kids and when we are not going on a trip I remove the lot and allows us to have full access to all three rows. I have made the system fully portable so I can remove each part and put it back in when required. Of course it does take about 30mins to put it in or take it out but allows the best of both worlds and still make it look like a permanent solution when installed.

I know it's not the single drawer you are after but as you can take it out it might meet your requirements?

              Sorry pics upside down

Have added another pic of the drawers without the side panels etc I made and you can see the tie down buckles etc

Thanks for the pics mate, good to see how they are tied down! I would love to go a double drawer, but having a surfboard in the car is a very common thing for me... allows for quick lunchtime waves if the opportunity presents itself...

I found these examples via google image search on Pradopoint... this could definitely solve the how to mount issue.

I know the guys at drifta can do custom fit outs, might be worth shooting them an email to see what they can do for you!

                    Will.

Usernamewill, kjoy064, trsmith - Thanks for the feedback - Ill have a chat to the guys at Drifta and see what they can do. They certainly seem to have a really nice finish on their products, which is as important to me as the functionality (gotta keep the rig looking nice!).
