  • Asking Via 'Billy' - 2003 PRADO GXL - A/C light intermittent - Assistance Appreciated

Hi all.. I am not really sure how to start this post. 'Billy' as he was known on here, is my late husband. I am sorry for those of you who might remember Billy posting from way back.

To the point - I tried to join PradoPoint tonight under a new ID that's mine to ask the below question, but since my husband and I used the same email address, it wouldn't let me and asked me to reset the password. So I did and here I am.

The short version is I sold the Prado (2003 PRADO GXL) today to its new owner. She was rapt with the her purchase and while I will miss the Prado, it's been a great reliable vehicle for us, I needed to down-size.. and I am assured it's gone to a good new home.

Murphy's Law kicked in - the new owner messaged me tonight that the A/C light is flashing and the fans are on but no cold air. I have researched online, found quite a few suggestions with a similar vein and I pulled up the Prado manual and wiring diagram. I know some might say well, you've sold it so it's not really your issue to fix BUT.. I'd like to help if I can. Bearing in mind I am not a mechanic..

Soo.. what I am seeing, and from geograzza's post above (and others) is that:
    - the likely culprit (or cheapest and easiest to check) is the A/C clutch relay (which lets the compressor talk to the AC); and
    - one way to test if this is the problem, is to swap the fog light relay with the A/C relay and see if the A/C works then.
If so, new relay (or I guess if the new owner doesn't use the fog lights they can leave the fog light relay in the A/C relay spot) will solve the problem.

Now, I don't have the Prado any more so I can't just pop the bonnet and try the above for myself.
Can anyone please confirm the above for me as the first port of call to fix it? If so, would anyone mind please taking a photo of where the respective relays are located under the bonnet, so I can point the new owner in the right direction?
The new owner lives a bit of a drive away so it would be easier for me to email the info and a pic to them, or I guess if they join PP I can send them the link to this thread.

Again, apologies if this is not quite the right way to ask the question.. and thanks in advance for your time.

    Regards
    KH

PS I am not sure if I should ask this question in a different section of the forum.. please redirect me if so (or mods feel free to move my post)..
& apologies for the double posting.. I posted in the thread that seemed closest to my question (via the search bar) which was:

but maybe my query is better here..

The relay is labelled MG CLT. The foglight relay is the same size but different colour.
