  • New Boss rims on my Kakadu

    Hi Guys,

I have just received my new rims & tyres after a three week wait(They had to be drilled to suit the prado)
Problem is that at full lock the RHF wheel hits the swaybar bracket & has damaged the rim. Wheels are Boss Flex 17 x 8.5 +25 with BFG KO2 265/70/17 tyres.

When I ordered these I did mention to my tyre guy that the car is a Kakadu & has KDSS so make sure there is not any clearance issues, he said that they will be ok but the tyre may hit the mudflap (this did not bother me as I will get a lift kit soon)

My question is, Can somebody tell me if there is a fix fotr this or will the rims just not fit?

If I do need to change rim offset what do I need to get +20 or +15? & What will be the the issues with these offsets if any?

My tyre guy is being pretty good about this & now realises that there is an issue & will do what needs to be done to fix.

I hope that I can keep these rims as they look mint on the car.

Apologies if this has already been answered in a previous post, I have tried to search the forum for the answer but cannot find what I need to know.

    Lee

From what has been written before you need to run P15 or less for 17s to fit a VX or Kakadu.

Thanks guys, I am going to take the rims back & ask for a set with +15 offset. Do you know if 17 x 8.5 will be too close to the guard? Any other clearance issues I should worry about?

Sorry for all of the questions, I need to have all of the correct information so I can ask for the correct rims this time.

        Thanks.

17x7.5" +15 is known to fit. Not sure about 8.5" as to whether it will clear the KDSS components.

Hithanks for your posts. Just Brought a 2015 Kakadu and am desperate to get some decent wheels and tyres on it. Had BFG mud terrain on the last car (fj cruiser) but was thinking A/T this time round. So to confirm the only 17 inch rims that are going to fit will be 17/7.5 +15 offset and is the largest tyre the 265/70 or could I fit a 285? Cheers

275/65r18 just over a 32" will fit on the factory rims

From memory 285/70r17s will fit a NON KDSS with +10s personally have not seen them on a KDSS model

                Hi all,

A quick update on the rims for my Kakadu.

After a bit of Research with my tyre guy we decided to order the Boss Flex in 17x8.5 with a +15 offset & after a long wait as they were drilled specially for the Pradothey arrived yesterday & I am pleased to announce They fit. with 265/70/17 BFG ko2 tyres on a standard height Kakadu & very minor rubbing on the mudflap on full lock.(Dobinsons/Airbag man lift kit ordered to fix this) They look awesome.

I now have at least 10mm clearance from the inside of the rims to the swaybar mount.

If you live in Karratha I highly recommend Troy's tyres to u for your wheel & tyre needs, he did a great job with mine & he will also be fitting my lift kit.

I hope this post can help other Kakadu owners with rim sizes.

Amts, I know this is kinda an old thread but I had a question. So I have installed dynamic steel rims 17"x8" offset +25 (I believe) on a 150 VX. I checked underneath at full lock and it seems to clear all KDSS components (swaybar link) when on flat ground. I note you mention 17"x7.5" +15 is required to clear the KDSS but do you know if there's much difference between steel vs alloy? I noticed my alloys had a thicker lip (less clearance).

If it's cleared on flat ground is there a chance it'll knock when it's flexed? The clearance is pretty minute.

                  Thanks mate.
