Are these figures actual measured (kms and litres at the pump) or from the display because the only way most people would get those averages is coasting down a long hill?

        Hi Guys,

Picked up my VX diesel last Friday. Currently have 378Km on the clock. Mainly city driving and and im getting 12.5 and that is with feathering of the throttle.
I take it this will improve with more k's on the clock.

Just wondering if this is normal:
I reset the avg litres per 100km on the dash MID whilst on a free way doing 100km/h. so the avg fuel consumption went down to around 7L/100km from 12.5. As soon as i got off the free way and headed home it crept up to around 9L/100km. So the next day I continued with city driving whilst really feathering the throttle and and it kept creeping up until it reached a stable 12.5L/100k.

I then decided to head back onto the highway to see if the economy would go back down to around 7 but this time without resetting the the dash MID.
The indicator only went down a few points from 12.5 to 12. is that normal? Do you normally need to reset this every-time you drive.

Seems highly inaccurate or am I just being impatient... other than that loving the truck

        Cheers...

          hello,

The l/100km fuel economy display is an estimate at best, it is not an accurate representation of fuel economy, and it can take some time to settle down to be even close to reality...it does not measure fuel consumption, it "estimates" fuel consumption by using inputs such as throttle position etc.

the only real practical way to get an accurate idea of fuel consumption is to fill the fuel tank, and drive for sometime, ( certainly more than one tank full), and then at some stage fill the tank again at the same servo, and then add up the total fuel used (after the first complete full tank full) and calculate the actual km travelled after the tank was filled. That will give you a much better idea of fuel consumption,

            Thanks Brogers,

I've read about people using apps to calculate just what you're talking about. I'll do it next time i fill up, it maybe some time as there is still 1000km before empty

Fair point made by brogers in relation to the accuracy of the in car unit, however that aside I personally consider those figures for the 2.8 to be quite high. I pick up my new 2.8 tomorrow and will be slightly disappointed at anything over 10 let alone 11..

My old man has a 2015 Isuzu MUX with lift 265/17 A/T's auto and is in the low 9's combined!

Maybe I expect too much, but for an new engine that's supposed to have all the appropriate technology, pulling 11's+ doesn't seem right to me...

I have the new 2.8. Best I have seen is 7.5 on the highway. I am averaging 9.3 and an average speed of 51km. Got 11.8 towing a 1.2t camper on the highway. Hope this helps Lski.

I use this app on my iPhone to keep track of my fuel usage, "Road Trip Lite". It is free to download. I use it every time I fill up and have been keeping track of my diesel usage since July 2013 using this app. https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/road...299392794?mt=8

I also use this app. Works quite well to keep track of usage. You can also adjust to suit non standard tyre size to keep it accurate.

I am down into the low 10's mostly city driving with 5000km on the clock. My first tank wasn't great either. Whats your feeling about the performance difference between the V6 and the 2.8l? To me its adequate but not a show stopper. An extra 20kw wouldn't go astray though.

                          Thanks

Have a 2.8 diesel GXL auto with 10K on the clock. Get around 9.7L/100 with mix of 80% country/20% city. I am very conscious of overdrive gears and only use cruise control on level roads. Try and keep cruising at 100kms/hr and at 1500rpm (6th speed - highest ratio). I work the pedal pressure to get to top gear as soon as possible. It's easy to get 'stuck' in 5th 100km/hr at approx 2000rpm and chew through more fuel. My old 120 series with 3.0 d4d auto didn't hunt around for gears as much on cruise.

On about the 4th tank now, economy still nothing to write home about... Around the 13 l per hundred. Most driving is done with the Eco light on, mixed town country driving. Taking the Eagle away over the long weekend, be interesting to see towing economy.
