  • 5th Gear

Is it possible to get a higher ratio 5 gear for the 5 speed gear box of my 2005 120 GXL.

    5th Gear

You don't state whether auto or manual.

But yes. A decent gearbox builder would be able to change it.
Saying that. It may not be an off the shelf item and may need to be made from scratch. = $$$.

Another option may be to go to larger tyres. This will extend the distance per revolution. = higher ratio.
Naturally how large you go may require modifications to body and suspension. = $$

      Wot Piggy said ^^^^^^^
I put 235/85R16s on for a 6% increase in roadspeed for same revs; these will fit on std 16x7 rims and JUST fit inside the RV guards. I did it to allow me to tow in 4th ( do NOT use 5th in a manual for serious towing) giving about 95kmh at 2400rpm, which is about the same revs as 100kmh in 5th on standard size. You will lose a bit of go off the mark, and the gap between 2nd and 3rd makes city driving a bit more tricky because some corners really need a gear somewhere in between the two, but the old girl is the tug for the 2T van not the shopping trolley.

It's a manual box. Just thought there might be something off the aftermarket shelf.
Have done Ironman 2" lift with BFG A/T 2s 265/70/16s. So getting a bit more speed for less revs.
Getting engine remapping and 3" exhaust done soon.
        Thanks for replying.

Less revs may use more fuel so dont waste your time $$$$

Should only be 2500-2600 rpm at the state limits.

If you have the R150 5spd, you can use a 5th gear and of a Toyota Dyna gearbox for a bit more overdrive.

More boost will use more fuel. If I run less revs in 5th I have to use more boost for the load (in my case 2T van). My economy sweet spot towing is 4th gear, 95kmh, 2400rpm with std exhaust, straight through muffler and DTRONIC chip.
              #### is right, but YMMV depending on your situation. You need to decide where your speed/economy sweet spot lies, and that depends on the weight/drag of your rig, your patience, and your wallet. There is no "one size fits all" answer; in my case the taller tyres allowed me to use 4th gear (a MUST for towing) at a decent speed and revs.
