I'm looking at a set of 17" sunraysa rims with a +10 offset and was wondering if a 285 70 17 will fit with those rims, thinking about having a 2nd set of muddies for offroad weekends.

285/70r17 in a +10 fit on my brothers SWB 150 Prado. It is a fair tyre jump from Std expect to loose a lot of power and fuel usage will be up a fair bit

Personally think a 32" tyre suits a Prado better than a 33" unless you change diff gears to suit
From an off-road perspective you want narrow and tall, this will maximise surface patch area when aired down, narrower tyre width also saves on fuel

The closest thing would be a 265/70r17 or 275/65r18

            265/70/17 = 31.7
            275/70/17 = 32.2

Just on this lot ... I'm looking at fitting some mickey thompson baja mtz 265/65r17, but unsure whether to go 65 profile or 70 profile, I think the 70's with greater diameter may throw out speedo reading ... any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated; MG

The 70 profile will correct your speedo. It's a few kms out from factory.

It may also over correct it.
Mine with 70's runs out by 4% the other way now. Led to a few fines in the early days.

That's odd, I checked mine with gps and daily drive through speed cameras. You'rs must be a bigger profile than mine.

On the very early 120 series, the speedo was spot on. It then changed to overread in later years and has been since then. So for those, fitting 265/70R17 made it very close to spot on.

They vary and can also be out to read less than actual speed from the factory, not that I have seen it, but recently they changed the allowed % as previously it was greater than the allowed speed camera threshold.

Mine read under when I bought it. I changed to 265/65 d697 and it was spot on. Mickey Thompson 265/70 made it read 4% over.
I now have hankook 265/70 and it's 3.5% over still.

                            Hi guys

I didn't want to start yet another thread on 285s.

My Dunlop Grantrek 265/65r17s are at 51000km and 85% wear. 85% wear is good enough for me! So I'm due for a tyre upgrade and I'm thinking about getting 285/70r17 BGF AT KO2s, and I'm not going to dress up the reason: they look cool and I wants them. But, I am aware of UCA rubbing for 285s.

I remember reading something about the fact that I can, but I cant find it now, so I'm looking for confirmation: Can I replace the UCAs with aftermarket ones and avoid the rubbing on stock rims?

I'd probably get front strut spacers (25-40mm) at the same time. No idea if that's relevant.

Going up to 285/70R17 will sap power and increase fuel consumption. Without charging the offset, you will rub at full lock.

Struts spacers are definitely not a good idea.

Ok! Noted on the struts. Did some reading and 5mins later, thankyou! Bad idea.

I'm not particularly concerned with the power loss or fuel consumption at this time - I find it as a good excuse to get a steinbauer for the power loss.
