  • 2016 2.8 Diesel 5000 km Vibration at Idle n Rough Gear Change

    Hi

I have a 3 month old 5000 km prado and i have noticed this week that when you stop at lights and the car is idle there is a vibration that vibrates the doors and the seats so when you are stop at the lights u constantly feel the vibration all the way up the seats to the head rest.
    I
Another issue i have noticed is when you are driving in traffic requiring a lot of slow and accelerate it seems like the moment you take the foot of the pedal the car instantly loses speed and you feel it slow down all of the sudden and if you accelerate you feel a thud before the gear engages.

Just wondering if this normal or i should get the dealer to check it out.

That most definitely doesn't sound normal, you have a problem indeed.
I would not drive this car and I'd get on the phone to your Toyota and arrange to get it back to them as soon as possible.
Let us know how you go.

Another think i have noticed is that there is black sooth in the exhaust pipe. I was under the impression that due to the DPF it should been clean but i stuck a finger in the exhaust pipe and had black stuff on the fingers.

Is everyone's exhaust clean and clear or is the black stuff normal?

Is it auto or manual, mine does the same, hesitation when accelerating say at a roundabout....... same thud as if the gbox is confused and cznt select a gear.

Your tail-pipe should be clean to the touch - the DPF should remove (almost) all of the soot.

The finger test on my rig produces virtually no soot...

With regards to the "thud" noise normally heard after coming to a stop or accelerating after a quick stop, it is usually associated with an improper lubricated tail shaft. As the spline on the tail shaft extends and retracts, it can often get bind and when it releases it can cause that particular noise. This could be a possibility but not a guarantee.
Lubrication of the tail shaft spring and uni joints are part of the regular service procedures but no dealership ever does it. Hiluxes got pretty bad at one stage and replacement tail shafts were issued under warranty.
