  • About to purchase a 150, is it a good deal?

    Hey all!

Greetings from Costa Rica. I've been wanting to buy a prado for a year or two, specifically a 3 door one. I have always liked it, and I don't really carry that much equipment/people to justify a 5 door prado. I do frequent weekend trips to the beach/mountains with my girlfriend without much equipment/bags.

Just found a guy selling his 2011 150 prado (sx I believe, though its branded as tx over here). Its a petrol 2.7 and has 67k km on the clock. It has full agency service record, though the agency warranty has expired of course. Owner says he has only used it in the city, and never really liked taking it on bad roads. He's selling it since its not really used, and he would rather have the cash.

He's asking for $25k. Cars in Costa Rica are usually more expensive due to a 50% import tax, so cars tend to have a high resale value. There are a lot of prados over here, so used prados 120 usually run between 15k to 30k, and used prados 150 (5 doors) usually run from 35k to 50k and beyond.

I'll be seeing the car tomorrow, and the owner has agreed on taking it to a mechanic for a thorough inspection. I plan on slowly adding modifications, starting with a OME suspension and BFG tires, and later on an ARB bullbar and snorkel.

    So, sounds like a deal?
