  • How to: Replace the Door Mouldings - Weather Seals including the rear side windows.

As our car is now just turned 10 years old, we noticed the rubber on the door tops were perishing allowing water to flow down off the window and into the door. Time to replace them. Local Toyota Dealership wanted way to much for them, so decided it was time for an Amayama order.

    The old seals:

Step 1: Order the parts. I bought ours from Amayama shipped from UAE. I ordered the 2008/2009 trims (same as the Lexus GX470) with the chrome tops. The price difference between black and chrome was minimal. It took about a week to get to Perth.

Note: you do not have to remove the mirrors or the inner door trim to do this job. You do however need to loosen the rear cargo area side windows to get to a plastic clip.

Step 2: Remove the screws with a Hex head key, on the front doors these are towards the back of the car, and the back doors are near the B Piller.

Step 3: Lever up the rubber seal from the outside with Window Down. Use a plastic trim removal tool or similar to make sure you don’t damage the paint. As you leaver it up, it may break and you can pull them apart. Just make sure the inner plastic part doesn't fall inside the door.

Repeat this for all 4 doors. Then clean the mud/dirt/crud off the paint.

Step 4: Front doors. To clip on the new Trims to the front doors you need to slip the moulding under the mirror and then try to align with the back of the door so it looks pro, and the hex screw aligns with the hole. Tap it down with the palm of your hand and it should clip in about 4 places.

Step 5: Back doors. Fit the new moulding at the back of the back door first to align it with the little quarter window seals, and then again using your palm tap it down and it should also click in. Make sure the hex screw aligns also.

Step 6: Put the Hex Screws back in the doors while pressing downwards on the outside to ensure it sits tight on the door.

Step 7: Rear cargo side windows. These are the tricky bit but not too hard. Inside the car remove the C Pillar trim by pulling off the rubber seal and unclipping the bottom panel. Then the top panel should also unclip. User a hook to pull the panel out of the way to allow you to get a ratch in there.

Step 8: Using a 10mm deep socket, remove the bottom nut and loosen the top nut inside the C Pillar that hold the hinge for the Window. Be careful not to lose the nut down the pillar. I used some bluetac on the socket to hold it. Now you should see the clip under the window.

Step 9: Behind the window, press the centre of the clip inwards and then clip should then be removable. Using the plastic trim tool, slide it under the trim and you will need to break the 3 white plastic clips to remove the trim (Unless you pull the interior panel off completely to remove them).

Step 10: Clean up the area and then clip in the new moulding. Push the plastic clip back in and lock it. Then push the window back in and tighten the window nuts (Be care not to tighten them to much or you might end up with a smashed window). Put the Trim back on the C Pillar.

      Repeat on the other side.

          Thanks

Just so you know as well. they squeak a little for a while when the window goes up and down, though it does go away with time.

                      No worries.

Probably silly to say, but make sure you have chrome on the other 4.

Mate, would you know the part numbers for the black moulds, or let me know where I can find the part numbers? Mine are black all round and only need to replace the back cargo window ones.

                        Thanks again

I need to do this as half of mine have cracks in them. Can anyone help with codes for them in black for a full set both sides 07 gxl, may as well do them all if im going to do some as even the colour is a little faded.
