  • Rear Blinker Problem

    Hey All,

    First time posting on here.

After some help on a problem with the rear blinkers on my 95 Series.

Both blinkers in my tail lights have stopped working. I've used a test light to check for power, nothing. The weird part (maybe) is that the two blinkers in the rear bumper are still working fine. I'm in the process of working backwards from the tail lights to find where i can find power, just quite confusing without a wiring diagram.

My next step is to buy a workshop manual with some form of wiring diagram (any suggestions?).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

So i've chased it back to the connectors on the front passenger side.
There is three coming off the harness from the back of the car. Appears to be only one wire +earth for the blinkers running to the rear left hand side of the car. These from a brown connector (This connector also has brakes, parkers, reverse, speaker, 2x constants, rear window and the blinkers)

Should there be only one set of wires running to the rear for blinkers?
Or one set for the tail lights and one set for the bumper bar?

My prado has working blinkers in the rear bar, the tail lights on each side of the rear of the car do not.

My understanding is that the tail light blinkers didn't conform to Aus design regulations of visible angle, due to the mounting of the spare tyre. So they were disconnected in Aus Prados, and only the blinkers in the rear bar operate. I think that most don't even have bulbs in the tail light blinker location (mine don't).

          Cheers Boxy1,

That saves me pulling my hair out for nothing. Glad i stopped last night when i did.
I've only recently just bought my Prado and was doing the rounds getting ready for rego.. So glad this was something i checked when buying it. ops:
It's pretty hard to find information on this though, only found a couple of forum threads mentioning it.

          Thanks again.

Yup yup as mentioned, they didn't conform to ADR standards regarding visibility so they were removed. I myself like to be seen as much as possible so have actually added them in myself.

Is there wiring mods to have them working, or is it just add bulbs and your right to go?

There is no Wire/Holes for the Lamps.

I have just fitted after market Tail lamps (LED Stop and Tail), the after market lamps were fitted with an Amber blinker lamp and wiring, I extended the Blinker wiring to the Trailer connector T6 (LHS rear), Extended wire from RHS lamp by removing door gasket poked the wire into the void and replaced the gasket.

The connector is at the top of the Image Above Labeled T6.

Can i ask what the after market lamps and wiring is worth?

                      Went a cheap option.
As i had some spare led T20 type globes from my Dodge, i bought some T20 sockets (lot of 5 for $7) on ebay.
Drilled a 25mm hole through the blinker rear where the socket needs to go, rounded out hole to 26mm to allow for the globe diameter to fit through.
To hold the socket in i drilled two small holes below the height of the socket rear, opposite each other in the plastic shrouding.
I then fed a cable tie through the holes and tightened to hold the socket in place.
Wired the blinkers to the earth (white wire) on the existing trailer plug wiring, and the blinker active wires also to the trailer plug wiring already accessible inside the rear left panel (yellow wire - lefthand and green - righthand blinker active wires).
Righthand side wiring i ran under the plastic cover at the hottom of the rear cargo area where i had tbe rear parking sensor cable already ran.
Easy job, and only cost $7 plus a bit of wire and cable connectors to have the rear 1/4 panel blinkers up and running.
Could not justify spending > $200 just to have additional blinkers from factory spec.
