$21,000-22,000 for a Prado

Hi Guys,

What would I be looking at for: year model, odometer etc for dropping $22,000 on a Prado Diesel GXL?; I was hoping something between 200,000 to 230,000kms for an 08 model if possible?

What are the issues I need to look out for when purchasing and inspecting the vehicle? I've read about the injectors issue, is this something that I still need to be concerned about?
What other things are potential money sinks and hazards when buying a used prado?
How essential is it to get someone to inspect it before purchasing if these issues cannot be detected by a buyer?

I'll raise more questions tomorrow, but first some input would be good.

For that kind of money you are right, 120 Series TD but an 08 might be pushing it unless you get a stock one and get lucky.

I'm in a similar situation, but with a more specific question. About D4D injectors: Is it now safe to assume that Prados with a D4D engine (1) have already failed and been fixed if the seals were bad, or (2) have good seals that are unlikely to fail after 150,000 + km? Can we stop worrying about bad injector seals or are failures still occurring? Is it correct that D4D injector failure is uncommon in Prados newer than 2008?

If looked after the D4D in my opinion is solid. Keep the oil pickup clean, ensure the injector seals have been replaced and install a EGT sensor for cheap insurance. Though ############# will give a better run down than me.

Oh and if the 120 hasn't been into Toyota to have the injector seals replaced, roll into Toyota, they will look it up and if not done already will replace them free of charge if in the right VIN number range. I think there is a thread on here somewhere about it.

Mine got done for free (Delivered May 2007), but the previous owner paid for it before Toyota decided to do there Custom Service Program to replace them.
