  • VX or Kakadu

    I am trying to decide on which one to buy.

    Does anyone think the crawl control and the multi terrain select system is worth the extra $$$ ??

    On that note what is and what does the multi terrain select system do? Will it really benefit me off road that much over the VX without it?

    If I was to remove the adjustable shocks would that affect the MTS system?

    From what I understand, the MTS will have a bearing on the throttle input depending on the terrain selected.

    The TEMS shocks have no bearing on the MTS.

      For what it is worth I had an 2009 150 Kakadu and then went with a gxl when I 'upgraded' to a newer year model. Crawl was very cool when I used it once, briefly. As was the multi-terrain.
      I would be interested to know how many people use them regularly/ would not be without them.

        I think MTS, Crawl control, rear difflock and self levelling rear air suspension are all well worth the extra coin if you want it use It for 4wding hence why we got one

        We have used crawl control a few times already in as little as 10 months it is the difference between being stuck or not on a few occasions, even found it very handy going down super rocky loose declines, coming from a 79 series I don't think the 150s low first or reverse are quite up to scratch, have also seen Crawl used on some more serious tracks and it performed great, self leaving rear suspension is good as it will adjust for your load, either fully loaded for a touring trip or dead empty going to work it sits at the same hight.

        We upgraded our suspension which involved removing the Std shocks all you loose is the incabin, sports or comfort ride settings new setup rides much better on and off-road.

          VX wins in my opinion => lighter vehicle, much more headroom (no sunroof and no screen on the ceiling), less complex vehicle/suspension, Kaka off-road technology aids not really needed if one has experience driving off-road (traction control on Prado is very good), and comes with excellent KDSS suspension. Plus saves lots of cash.

            Crawl control will turn all 4 wheels with load at low speed, the only other way I have every seen this done is with front and rear lockers.

            Basic traction controls require momentum to shift load off wheels to get the left and right moving but they won't turn all 4 with load at once, they will brake wheels ect. But when you are hung up with all the load on one of the wheels the other side won't budge

            As for MTS it adjusts the amount of wheel slippage, throttle control and individual wheel braking over selectable modes

            All that said if your not going to need lockers the Std prado traction system will be fine

              VX plus lockers for the win, then. I'm with Kapitan and went the VX route.
