  • Dealer told me that there will be an increase of about $400 over the current price - will find out in late October I guess.

VX loses KDSS as well as the power fold 3rd row of seats. Everything else for all models is gains.
Why would the VX lose KDSS? Isn't that a backwards step?

It gains a fridge and multi terrain cameras instead. I know if rather kdss. I believe they're trying to boost Kakadu sales

        • 200 Series GXL can be optioned with KDSS for less than a current Kakadu. I know which way I'd go...

              • Yeah, 200. My VX with KDSS might have better resale now, so I can afford a real land cruiser one day.

                • How is a 200 series better then a Prado anyway? Engine aside.

The engine is tied directly to everything in a 4x4 when it comes to ability, it's half of the vehicle.

                        • If you have no intention on towing a huge van, the Prado is plenty good enough. Less money to buy, less weight for off roading, less on the juice.

Smaller dimensions, better for in town and the Bush tracks which these things are made for. Prado is better specced grade to grade then 200. Prado has more fuel capacity therefore bigger range. A mate has gone from a 150 3.0 Prado diesel to 200 4.5 and says when daily driving power to weight of the 2 vehicles feel the same by seat of the pants.

                            • I examined the LC200 against the Prado (2.8) and my conclusions were:
Prado (GXL) : Better value for money, easier to park, slightly better equipment, less complex, better fuel consumption, better 2nd row seat foot room (LC200 feels knees up).
LC200 (GXL) : Nicer, quicker and smoother engine overall, slightly better ride, better dashboard, much bigger boot (and easier to remove 3rd row), nicer looking, would be better for heavy towing or 6/7 adults.
Therefore - given the $30k price difference they aren't really a direct comparison and I did not need the space or towing power of the LC 200 (but tempting). If I had to choose between a Prado Kakadu and a LC200 GXL around $90k, the LC200 might actually win for me.

                              • That is a great comparison, thanks OzDriver. We are a family of 5 taking off round Oz for 6 months in 2019, so need the space, but cant get a LC200 across the line cos it is so unsuitable / unnecessary for the mainly city driving we will do in the next 18 months. Decisions decisions!
