Really depends on what you are buying the 4WD for. If it long trips in remote areas then a Toyota has numerous benefits, such as fuel range, off-road capability and comfort, and service support in remote areas.
If you're buying it for urban work with occasional off-road and remote work then there are a lot of options. The Prado is not very polished, but for serious off-road and remote work the Prado does pretty well.
Nothing about towing weights yet.
As for the Prado touring etc, I know they are great as I used to own a D4D 2007 and had the works done to it. Very capable.
I'm just keeping my options open if the Prado hasn't really advanced since my 2007 model, and it appears it hasn't. I was holding out hope for a bigger engine and therefore, possibly more towing capacity. The service support in remote areas is certainly important but there appears to be a lot of Grand Cherokees out there now, hopefully the support is improving.
I will wait for the more detailed reviews before I get serious about purchasing

Last year on my way up north on +40C day I came across a Grand Cherokee at a road house with oil spewing out of the gearbox, pretty sure it was overheating and doing some weird stuff. I'd love an 8 speed, but there is a lot to be said for a simple old fashioned auto.

One issue that seems a step back is loosing the rotary knobs for temperature controls. I have had some cars with button temperature controls and others with rotary and I much prefer rotary since it is so easy to find the control without looking and make a simple adjustment. I also think that new silver central area will be more reflective and cheap looking. The safety features are a good improvement though.
