  • Just window shopping so didn't drive it.
Dont think the wife'd be happy coming home with yet another prado from the same dealer...
    Cheers

    • It looks like you can no longer get a beige cloth interior option on the GXL but is an option (as leather) on all paint colours for the VX and Kakadu.
A 6 speed auto V6 GXL with beige interior is going to be even rarer now.....

difference is with dark you never get the exact same color and you easily notice where you did the touch up, on my crystal pearl you dont notice.

        • Does anyone know what the key differences are to make the 2018 Kakadu a 3000 kg towing capacity compared to the 2010 Kakadu at 2500?

          • Marketing.... I suspect suspension.

            • Better cooling for the engine and transmission

              • I would think market forces / demand has driven the increase. Additionally the Prado has the same running gear as the Hiluxs minus the left springs, which has been designed / marketed at 3000 kg to keep up with the Jones.
It would be a slow trip up hills if towing to this revised upper limit. I would believe the chassis / brakes / front and rear axles are the same as the previous generations, so id put it down to Toyota relaxing their conservative enigeering ratings for sales, plus the new drive train 2.8 and 6 speed and possibly up rated cooling systems.
Is their any limitations on the 3000 kg ?, reduce fuel load, is it doable with gvm ?, or just auto Prado and your good to tow 3 tons ?
Or purely accademic to tow close to the limit plus reasonable load in the wagon ?
I think if you were to consider serious towing loads, the big daddy cruiser options would be better ??

I see. I presumed off-white would be just as noticeable but I suppose it comes down to the quality of the touchup pen.

Do you have any experience/opinion on how a dark coloured vehicle might fade with overexposure to the sun? Again I'm presuming dark colours will suffer bleaching much worse than white cars - or at least the effects will be more noticeable

                  • You won't be sorry, just going to have to suck it up for a little while. My new "Limited" version arrives in 10 days, 2 months ahead of previously promised, and after looking very carefully at a demo VX version I realised that my Tekonsha Prodigy electronic brake controller + wiring will swap directly into the new truck, and I'm real happy about that.

                    • Anyone know any info on aftermarket bullbars that are available for the new model?

Talking to my local ARB, it'll be 4-6months before theirs gets developed and on the market.

Not real keen on the toyota types - looks flimsy and the alloys are a nightmare to clean

                      • ARB will probably just use the same bullbar which they have been using on the prado since 2010. They didn't develop a new bullbar for the 2014 facelift model and I doubt they will develop one for the 2018 facelift as well.

They probably won't have to use tape to cover the headlights on the 2018 facelift like they did in the previous model.

Toyota paint is pretty damn good, you wont have a problem with any color.

                          • Oh man, now that the kakadu is on my radar I’m suddenly finding myself checking out the LC200. Would have to be the petrol since it comes with kdss but man, than V8 looks sweet. Pity it lacks a bunch of safety options though, especially compared to the kakadu

                            • Couple of questions here. I have a manual 2011 NT Pajero and went for my first test drive today in a GXL auto. First impressions of the Prado is it was very responsive in engine and transmission which was good to find. However I found the steering very light and the suspension also very light and “fidgety”. Do most owners get a heavy duty, 2” lift once they have dual battery, bullbar, etc fitted? Does this improve the steering feel as well as make the car more stable on the road? I know when I upgraded the suspension on my Pajero it was totally different to drive and felt like it should have from the factory. Appreciate any opinions on this.

                              • Test drove a kakadu today, could feel the benefit of sports+ mode - quicker from the line and holds gears until higher revs. Would image it’s quite useful when overtaking on motorways. Kdss was a little more difficult to notice given I was just going around local roads but it did feel more precise coming out of a roundabout when in sports mode.
Just have to now try and strike a deal, which isn’t going to be easy at the beginning of the month.
