  • Timing Belt

    Hi guys am after some advice for a family member who has an 07 D4D. It is about to click over 300,000kms and needs the timing belt done etc. He has been quoted only about an extra $250 on top of normal service from his local mechanic to replace it. I thought this was a bit cheap, and wondered if it was being done properly.
    So if anyone can let me know
    - approx cost
    - should he do idler and tensioner pulleys (have read it's a good idea)
    - anything else?

    At 300k I would replace both tensioner and waterpump (tensioner every time, pump every second belt), cheap insurance and peace of mind IMHO.

      I second T303. I also got my water pump from Bursons due to being a better pump. Did the job myself.

        Sounds a bit cheap. The quote might not include a new tensioner, just a belt and idler gear + labour. Worth checking. If the fan belt has never been changed, it would be worth doing. The old belt has to come off to do the water pump so there should be no extra labour to put a new fan belt on.

            Got mine done by my mechanic cost $518 , Toyota quoted a bit under $900

                do a complete flush of the cooling system and get the toyota red coolant put in
