  • Aftermarket Lower Control Arms

    Hi,

    I'm up for lower control arm bushes. A complete aftermarket control arm is around $140 per side and an aftermarket bush set is around $220 for both sides. Does anyone have experience with aftermarket control arms? Are they any good?

    I'm thinking aftermarket arms as they come with a new ball joint and will be quicker to install than trying to get the old bushes out. Looking at the Toyota bushes, the lower ball joint is pressed in so not sure if they can be replaced. The aftermarket arms appear to have ball joints held in by a C-clip.

    Certainly would be the quicker to exchange OEM with preassembled aftermarket arms.
    The lower ball joint is pressed into the arm, then secured with circlip.
    The lower arm adjuster bolts could be seized and difficult to remove. Read through the suspension threads for more details.

      Thanks.

      I'll check in with a local suspension workshop to see what they recommend. I'm a bit dubious of the aftermarket control arm quality. If I go down the aftermarket control arm path I'll keep the old arm to rebuild when needed.

      My front bush is in good condition but the back bush is torn half way through.

        When you consider how much force a ball joint is subjected to and how small they are, there's a good reason they cost a bit. I wouldn't trust one that came as part of an entire assembly for that little money to hold up to a serious pothole or rock.

        I've recently changed the bushings on my LCA, and had the dreaded seized bolt. If you go down that path I'm sure there are detailed threads on here, but shoot me a message if you get stuck and I can give you some tips!

            Thanks. I got my bushes done last week using Superpro bushes. Ball joints were checked and found to be fine. Car drives like new now.

            The mechanic didn't have any trouble getting the bolts out. They were greased up with the superpro bush grease when they were put back in.

              I went to https://www.amayama.com/en
              find you part number first/ then head to this site and search.
              I bought my LCA from UAE and they shipped to my doorstep.
              took about 2 weeks but half the price quoted here just to replace the bushes.
              Pretty easy job.
              Did the whole job solo at home with a jack and some stands.
              You get genuine toyota parts complete- no messin around.
