  • 150 Rattles common ?

Is it just me or have these 150s got a few rattles about them

A few in our 2016 Kakadu, I found one in the electronic passanger seat shroud it has a bit of play and just rattles around fixed that with a rag acting as a choc, windows rattle if they are down ( Toyota yet to respond )

and now after driving 20 mins on a mild dirt rd it sounds like there is a mouse in or behind my dash? Sounds to be coming from the drivers side and It is like a constant squeaking rattle any ideas ? I had a look above the footwell a whole bunch of stuff but can't pin point any 1 item

Also wheel arch shrouds are noisy lots of creaking with any body movememt

I have a rattle in my 5000km GXL. Have worked out it is the cover near the gear shift that goes over the P, R, D panel. Gives me the shits, would have got a Holden if I wanted rattles.

Well my SSV (LS3) doesn't rattle, surprisingly and its 12 months old now. Pretty damn well built car amazingly.

The GXL has two noises, one is from the horn pad in the steering wheel, vibes under certain RPM - I can grab the bottom of it and put upward pressure on it and it stops. Not sure how to fix that yet (maybe stuff a tissue in there.

And the rear barn door creaks when changing direction, actually sounds like a knock. I fixed it once with silicon spray (cleaned all the seals and locator latch) but it only lasted a few months not that trick doesn't work. List of causes could be:

      1. Spare tyre and cover loose
      2. Rear spoiler loost
      3. Tool box rattles in door
      4. Loose item in storage box thats fallen down the bottom maybe
      5. Third row seats?

          Hergy you are lucky

After doing some hunting around it is not all the that uncommon

Along with symos list, I also found Noted on this site the shroud behind/ below the window wipers can cause an annoying rattle, We had an annoying creek on our steering wheel ( plastic silver insert ) every time you would perform a turn and your hand touched the insert it would creek, stuffed a small pce on paper in the bottom and that fixed it.

Anyway this rattle coming from the dash is going to be hard to find as it seems to be coming from either inside the drivers side pillar or inside the dash
If any one has any leads other than behind the wipers let me know.

Zacaxel, we Are not over the moon about the amount of rattles our kak has had considering it is near new, Toyota have aknowlage all the windows rattle as a known issue but have no time frame on a fix, I'll be on to them again soon if they don't sort it out I will fix it and send them the bill I'll be sure to put this in writing first

Ha! can confirm all three of these. The horn one drove me nuts for years, and I ended up finding it on a 12 hour freeway trip. It was sooo subtle and nobody else could ever hear it. It was like a very faint mozzie in the middle of the night kind of noise..

I have a piece of black packing sponge jammed in there (very top left side of the cover). You can't really see it, and problem solved.

With the rear door, you need to loosen off the bolts on on the V shaped locator thingy (attached to the body, not the door) and then tap the whole thing up with a hammer to lift the captive nuts a few mm then tighten off. The door should lift ever so slightly when closing so that the locator is taking the weight. The noise you're hearing is from the latch above if the door is allowed to move around. You will probably find that the black coating is worn, in which case simply flip it over.

The gear shift rattle / squeak could be the shift lock button. I have some packing sponge jammed in there which fixed it for me.

I have just about all of mine fixed. The last one I found was inside the centre A/C vents somewhere. Closing the vents fixed that one... I can live with that for now..

^ I actually suspect this dash rattle was coming from the drivers A/c vent next time it comes on I'll try turning it off

Still can't understand why there are so many rattles Toyota flying on there rep from the 80s and 90s

Could be the vent... Also check the speaker grills on top of the dash, next to the pillars where they meet the the windscreen. We had one there on the left side and had it padded out to fix it.

Also there's two plastic inserts below the wipers on each side (outside) that are very loose. You can pop these out with the bonnet open and drive around without them to see if the noise is eliminated.

Check your toll pass mount also... Got me early on..

                Happy hunting.

Exactly the same issue - about 15000Km and is only noticeable on bumpy / dirt roads... also gives me the shits! Want to make it the dealers problem at the next service, but afraid they may stuff up a lot more than fix the rattle.
was thinking of adding some thin non-slip rubber/things in between the areas where the "plastic bits" come together...
                        Have not had the time...

So just the U shaped latch on the body side. One side of it may be worn down to bare metal, so just undo the bolts and flip it over. It's symmetrical. But you still need to lift the locator, otherwise it will just eventually wear again..

                            cheers mate

That fixed the annoying noise at the back. Amazingly only needed to move the locator up 2/5ths of stuff all, maybe 1.5mm and noise is gone. Funny, always thought it was the door but couldn't detect any movement trying lift or move the closed door so started looking elsewhere.

There are so many rattles that I have stopped noticing. With my previous Toyoda..not Prado ...the window glass started to rattle on the driver side..Toyoda specialist response ........this window has been opened and closed so many times it is bound to rattle..when asked what was mean time between failure..silence....Toyoda normal method to throw you off......they changed the rubber lining ....it failed again in half the time the original ones...lesson learnt... keep your genuine parts for as long as you can. Turn up the news/music/start talking to your self..it will all go away. enjoy the drive!
D4D. How long will it last?
