  • So... No vortex and no ultimate... What to use???

    OK, so after only using BP Ultimate Diesel (Caltex Vortex Diesel when BP unavailable) for the past 18 months, I am moving to a regional area that has neither.

    What to use?

    We will have a BP, 3 x Caltex, Shell/Coles Express, Metro, Mobil, IOR.

      I have used standard BP when touring and found it OK

        Nothing wrong with IOR. I prefer their above ground tank setup compaired branded stations with in ground tanks, particularly in flood areas.

          Hopefully you should be right when woolworths petrol is rebranded BP at the end of this year.
          I gather one or a couple of those caltex servos are woolworths?

            Have used shell for as long as I can remember. Usually high turnover outlets so you get "fresh" fuel There is not much difference between most of the fuels but try to find one with higher octane rating. Have always used shell v plus in the petrol cars. Have recently been putting BP high octane in the diesel Prado and can't say I have noticed a great deal of performance improvement but it does clean the internals better so I am told.
            So I did a bit of a search and found the following article. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating So the higher octane rating basically means less chance of detonation if I got that right. Sorry for the long post but I got carried away

                Plenty of food for thought...

                Could be a case of trial and error, without to much error, hopefully.
