  • Sunyee & 4wd Supacentre LED Driving Lights

    Hi all,

I'm on the verge of buying some 9" led driving lights. I'm reading good reviews of the 4wd supacentre ans Sunyee ones on eBay. A mate of mine has the 4wd supacentre ones on his 120 and the wiring kit was plug and play and piggy backed off the back of the exiting headlight plug to save splicing in to the high beam wire. Does anyone know if the wiring kits that come with the Sunyee or other eBay lights have this same plug and play setup for the wiring kits?

I would probably just go for the supacentre ones although they are out of stock of the wiring kits until the end of the month and that's when we head off on a trip.

Any other recommendations for ease of wiring install would be great.

    Thanks,
    Shane

The cheapy lights might be ok for the money but you'll get much better lights for a little bit more.
Stedi have a few on offer and they also stock wiring harnesses.

Thanks. They do look good and not as pricey as Lightforce. The Sunyee ones concern me with the extremely high Wattage per light ~ around 50Amps for the two lights!

I have the Sunyees (lightways) and they are mint.

The wiring kit it comes with has the piggy back kit, though I don't like the idea so I cut the loom and splice/solder into the original wiring at the back of the pass side headlight. I also cut off any plug thats not water proof and then solder/heat shrink them. The plugs to the lights them self are water proof.

Good to know @Killswitch. So you don't find the current draw to be a problem at all?

It would be nice to know what the actual current draw is. Bought a 60W light recently and it measured 15W. See here http://www.pradopoint.com.au/showthr...imed-vs-Actual

Not that I have noticed, I dont leave them on while the car isn't running. Also only have a cranking battery.

I will get a mate to see if he can check it for me.

I've just fitted the new Lightforce Genesis Led spotlights. Wow the are bright. I was running the Stedi Type X lights but they suffered from Radio Interference. No issues at all with the Lightforce llights. Keep that in mind with the cheaper lights they may not have the correct amount or none at all if RF filters.

Hey AMTS your meter may be getting fooled by the switching waveform used to drive the LEDs as they may be driven by a square wave . In this case you'll need a true RMS meter .
                        Cheers Ross

Thanks for info. Ended up buying 9" supacentre due to other positive reviews. Fitting them tomorrow. Cheers.

Sunyee vs 4WD Supacentre led Light bars

I have posted this as both of the companies are still going and i thought it may be relevant to the topic. I compared my Sunyee 20" 126w lightbar (dual row led)with my mates 22" 4WD Supacentre light bar (dual row led). Both purchased in 2017. The Sunyee has a little better spot and throws a bit further, it has like a magnifying lens on each led, also 6 flood type lenses on each side. It draws about 4.5A. Uses the sliding bottom mounts which suited me better because it bolts to the spot light brackets perfectly. It was much lighter than the Supacentre bar, about half the weight and smaller. It does not heat up, heat sink is fine. The 4WD Supacentre bar has a better flood beam as it has more flood type lenses each side than the Sunyee. 4WD Supacentre bar has the mounting brackets at each end of the bar. Anyway my personal pick would be the Sunyee. They are worth the money but if you could afford more then i would go a brand name, the cheap ones don't light up as far as i would like. My mate updated his to a KORR and says it is a lot better, but then again it was 6-7 times the price!
