  • Mark,

    I have emailed you with my set up shown in a MS Excel spreadsheet. No reply? I am aware you are busy. But I am heading off and would like to sort it out early. Then it can be delivered later. Thanks.

      • Hey Mark
        Couple of questions, are there seal kits available in the event of a leak in these foam cells and what is the oil they are filled with? ISO 46 hydraulic or some other spec?

        Cheers

          Hey,

          Yep you can get seal kits for the oil and dust seals, and also replacement piston bands.

          The oil used is a high temperature extreme service hydraulic, viscosity 15mm2/s at 40C. If you need to get some, you can get Shell Tellus V2 S15, or Hyplex 15 from Prolube.

                  Thanks. What brand are they using in the shocks, Shell or Hyplex? What are you topping up with? ISO15 is a pretty low viscosity..

                    Hey,

                    The oil the shocks come with is a Fuchs, I reuse all of it, and any overflow during bleeding I top up with Hyplex 15.

                    15 is as common as mud for shock oil.

                      • Hey all,

                        Couple of pointers for the front setup;

                        1. King coils can be a very tight fit on the strut body. If you are installing King coils by yourself (as some have) and not purchasing pre-assembled struts, please be aware that there is a significant +-3mm variation on the pigtail diameter on King 101 and 101H coils. I have had Kings that are a sloppy fit that go straight on over the strut threaded section, and I have had Kings that require grinding off the powder coat, and potentially a bit of metal on the pigtail if required. The majority of Kings have been tight and require no more than a bit of powder coat buzzing. Keep in mind these are hot wound and there can easily be several millimetres of variation on the pigtail diameter. I haven't seen the same issue with Dobinsons, just the Kings. If you get a super tight 101 or 101H coil, please don't bang it on, just grind back the pigtail a little so it is a nice fit!

                        2. Threads on front swaybar relocation blocks. These swaybar blocks are anodised so the threaded holes can be a tight fit with the anodising in the threads. Please work the small black bolts into the blocks before installation. I always run these bolts in first. I also use my thread cleaner in the chassis holes as well, as there can be a lot of corrosion/dirt/sand etc. in the chassis threads, so it is advisable to clean them out with a thread cleaner first! John has just hand checked over 30 blocks himself to make sure the threads are ok. Please don't wizz these bolts in with a rattle gun or drill, as you run the risk of cross-threading. Take your time and carefully hand assemble the front blocks and swaybar.

                        Current strut and shock revalve count is at 86!

                            • As one of the participants in Ironman group buy i thought it would be appropriate to provide some feedback on suspension performance . Kit was installed into our FJ Cruiser roughly 2 weeks ago and since then car was used for commuting duties , mall crawling ,as a mtb shuttle car and two days of decent off roading including some challenging terrain in Kinglake /Mt Disappointment area .
                              Compared to stock this is a very different car to drive , fairly firm on road , minimum cornering roll and dive under brakes . Stability at high speed is excellent (i did go with Blackhawk UCAs) . Any sacrifice of cushy factory ride over city potholes is quickly forgotten once you hit the tracks . I have Bilsteins on my other 4wd but this set up is in another league - `big bump absorption is great , i found i easily drove over stuff it would normally slow me down to a crawl.
                              Full credit to Mark for developing this kit and his effort to share it with others - i ve had some people smirk once they 've heard i ve got Ironman shocks installed - if they only knew how good this kit is :-)
