Hi Mark, top effort mate. I know from experience its a lot of work running a group buy!

Can I ask, would I be able to just get a set of extended Sway Bar links for the rear of my 120? I already have billies and kings.

Have you guys also looked at including an extended brake hose for the rear diff? I would be keen on something like this too.

    Cheers,

    KS

      Hi Mark,
Thanks for all you're doing! Four quick questions:
      1. With these rear shocks, am I right in saying that there's no need to extend the rear bump stops?
      2. If I don't get the strut caps, will the amts method for installing the front struts without spring compressors still work with these fatter struts?
      3. Can I use a normal c-spanner to adjust the preload/height, or is there something additional about the ironman spanner that I'm not seeing?
      4. Is there anything particularly critical about the dimensions of the front swaybar spacers, or could I make some up myself?

        Hey KS,

No problemo to grab just the links, just shoot me an email so I don't forget!

It's a bit of an issue trying to source brake lines at a decent price, and it's only really necessary for the 120, the 150 and FJ oem hoses are longer.

The quick and simple fix on the 120 is to shift/bend the bracket on the diff housing. That will cover quite a few different shock brands around the 620mm open length range.

          Hey Tim,

Q1. No need, still 20mm worth of bumpstop to smash your way through before you bump out, and to do that you'll be flying your Prado!

Q2. Amts method will still work no problemo. I'm using this method myself quite a lot, as I change front coils to test a fair bit.

Q3. The Ironman c-spanner doubles as a shock disassembly tool. It's not necessary to have the tool to lock the bottom collar in place, you can just do that with a light tap on a small punch or drift (off the vehicle). Keep in mind the strut collars are not officially designed for in-situ height adjustment. If you attempt to adjust them in-situ, you will a) definitely need the Ironman c-spanner, and b) grease the threads and collars liberally with anti-sieze, and c) also use an acetyl slipper plate to reduce the friction further. I would advise to do all height adjustments off the vehicle.

Q4. You could definitely knock some up yourself if you're handy on the tools. I can give you some starting dimensions to work off if you plan to head down that road!

          Hope this helps!

              Hi Mark,

Are the supplied struts going to be roughly set up for the correct height of 790mm ? If not what is a good starting point measurement for when we go to install them?

              Cheers.

                Hey,

I'll try to preload them for 790mm ride height for you, if you email me at [email protected] with all your vehicle specs I'll be able to get it close. If it doesn't come out at the numbers you're chasing, it's just a matter of preloading up or down in a 1:2 ratio with the ride height change.

                  Hey Mark,

E-mail already sent through. I was hoping they would be roughly set with only a slight adjustment required on install.

                  Thanks,
                  Barrie

                    Hey all,

Just an update to let everyone know how things are going!

The logistics are working out in my favor so far, the first set of struts and shocks has been re-valved and released into the wild on a cracking looking FJ Cruiser! I needed an FJ to field test the valving, so he has discovered the joys of gutter jumping and high speed speedbumps and roundabouts, and has been busy up at Bribie Island today!

First quotes are complete, and next lot of struts and shocks are being re-valved and out the door this week!

It takes me around 5.5 hours of some seriously hard back breaking yakka to disassemble, re-valve and bleed x2 struts and x2 shocks, so it is going to take me at least a couple of weeks to work my way through the list. It is worth the wait!

                    Any questions just email me!

                    Best from my oily garage!

I can confirm that this is a true statement. And he wondered why I wouldn't pull on some overalls and gloves and help...

                      Gear looks superb.

                      Great work as always.

The time and effort that's gone into this is unreal. This new suspension setup is what I've been waiting on and the fj is now complete. Awesome work mark.

I got the opportunity to have my life risked last week (aka going co-pilot with Mark around some undisclosed locations in his Prado).

About all i could do is laugh (at how incredible urban 'obstacles' were eaten by this suspension).

On road the ride is firm, tracking the road; no firmer than in a decent handling passenger car. No body roll through roundabouts. No nose diving on brakes, nor ABS issues nearing full lockup. But where i found the suspension excelling was in speedbumps, gutters, traffic islands. They may as well have not been there!!

Im running a Bilstein setup currently with similar valving to these custom Ironmans, with similar springs. Marks setup way outperformed both my expectations for what twin tubes could do, and also my Bilstein's.

For the money, this is an incredible deal.

Mark should post up a photo also comparing how massive these shocks are compared to my Bilsteins.
