  • Suspension for comfort & towing

    Hi all,

I know what you're all thinking, but I really do need some advice.. I want to change out my suspension!

I have a 2016 GXL, do lots of country KMs, and do tow a fairly heavy camper trailer from time to time. Will also be adding a steel bar up front. Really sick of seeing my back end sagging!

ARB have said OME (obviously) but I'm not sure they really consider my circumstances. I want to increase ride height with a 2" lift, retain current comfort around town and on highway as best as possible, and eliminate rear end sag when towing.

So what set up would you more experienced users suggest, and would you recommend also getting rear air bags?

Looking to have supplied and fitted in Perth WA

    Cheers!

I should add, I got a quote already for a King spring/ Bilstein set up & Polyair airbags for $2500 fitted & wheels aligned. Didn't get part numbers of springs or shocks, so not sure of models.. Sound about right?

I paid 2k for the King/Bilstein setup without the bags. I have no issue with rear end sag and handling is better. Was done at Coastal 4x4 in Jandakot.

      Thanks

Just went with regular duty springs Cuda, not heavy duty?

100-300kg weight rating. Towball downforce is about 170kg and add extra bits and pieces and kids and its about right.

Uhh it's so confusing! Feels like no matter what, spring rate will be a compromise. I've told the shop probably HD front (for near future steel bullbar) and MD rear.

Not sure what spring rate or model numbers you have chosen but HD springs for the front are normally reserved for bullbar, winch and dual batts. Fitting HD springs for bullbar alone is too much.

I think you really would benefit by posting up the part numbers you are considering. Medium and Heavy duty mean different things to different companies and might mean different to what you think. Also there is a decent brains trust that know the Bilsteins that do and dont work for what your considering. If there are wanting to fit you A712/A713's then look elsewhere.

I agree that HD at front would be for bar, dual batts and winch. I have OME 2 inch lift and it is just as comfortable as stock. I'd get the new suspension in first, and then see if you still need airbags. I got my OME at ARB HQ in Kilsyth because it is quite close and I have KDSS, but otherwise I would have put in whatever a good 4wd place recommends and forum confirmed. Dobinsons seem to be popular here.

Curious to know why you're saying not to get those shocks?
