At 100km/h my sits at about 1550rpm, putting on cruise control locks in in for me when it won't lock in with the foot pedal. Getting the ecm upgrade next week. I have monitored the fuel since new and coming up to 30000kms the graph the fuel lite app gives I can see exactly when a longer burn has helped bring my fuel down. Hoping the upgrade keeps it down!

Mine was Jan 2016 build and has had no gearbox firmware changes (just the DPF update). Has always used 6th as expected. Quite happy that it only uses 6th above about 80kph (sometimes less) since it seems a little less smooth if it tries to use 6th at less than 1500 rpm. I have previously posted that I think the 2.8 likes to have a occasional 'lively' run (run it up the revs, more throttle, decent length of trip) to keep it clear, but this is purely subjective. However, in a modern car we should not need to have to worry about this kind of thing.

that's odd, our 3L 2014 at 40k is running 8.5L average and does the school runs and highway work

Hi all,
Have returned from trip to Central Coast NSW and managed fuel economy figures of 13.2 l/100 on way up and 12.7l/100 on way back to Melb towing loaded camper trailer. This is around 10 to15% better than a previous trip where we averaged 14.5 l/100 which is a good result.
The auto trans also seemed smoother overall and tended to hold onto 5th and 6th for longer periods than before again a good result.
Fuel economy with mainly short 50 60kmh trips is about 13l/100 so not much difference there.
Overall happy with update/recall.

I spoke with Toyota today and they informed me that I have not had the ECU update, only the DPF replaced. The ECU recall/update addresses the DPF not reaching high enough temperatures when travelling at high speed which in turn will cause the DPF to block up and fail early in its life. Will be interesting to see if I get further improvements after the update is done on Thursday. What I find encouraging is that my tank is only half empty at 700km.2018 150 Series Crystal Pearl Prado VX 2.8l. 2 inch King springs and Bilstein shocks, Airtek TJM snorkel.

I did do a 400km country run and the mileage on that tank was good but i'll hold my judgement for the next tank or two...Cheers

3 weeks on from the DPF ECM recall and I am seeking roughly a 0.5 l/100 improvement (but too early to compare fully). Seems to have less throttle/turbo lag off the mark though. My 6th gear (and other auto ratio selections) has always worked as expected so I can't relate to the issues others have. I don't think that it is a core design problem but obviously not consistent. 6th gear is very high so it does tend to drop to 5th is any real demand is made. Would be nice if it had a gear indicator showing the gear in use (not just the maximum gear based on the semi-auto selection)

5th gear is 2000rpm

Hey everyone,
Took our Prado in for the ECM update today. Told them that we had heaps of white smoke on burn and bad fuel economy. They did he ECM update and just did a burn but wouldn't replace the DPF. We will see how it goes and see if things improve. Going on a bit of a trip soon so hopefully fuel economy will be better.

Funny but in my new 79 you wouldn't even know the DPF was there. No smoke, no smell, no noise. Just did 12,500km with the DPF and the counter ranged up and down between zero and 3.Dave
