  • How long to fit a winch to a TJM bullbar?

The place that fitted my bullbar said it would take them about 5 hours to fit a winch to the bar.

It's a T3 Explorer bar and I can't understand why it would take that long.

How long should it take me to remove enough to bolt a winch in place?

If it can't be fitted with bar in place.
It likely is a 4-5 hour job.
The bar probably has to come off.

Thanks, Where's the work? it looks like only a few bolts and the bullbar would come off.

Which bar? I have a T3 and the winch comes in and out without removing the bar using an engine crane. Wiring takes a bit first time around.

Damn. Just realised I posted this under 120 instead of 150.

The T3 bar I have has vertical reinforcing sections at either end of the winch tray so would not be possible to slide the winch in without removing the bar.

I'll try removing it in a few weeks and see how long it takes.

Just did this a couple of weeks ago. The front part of the bar has to come off, not the whole thing. You can leave the subframe in place. My wife helped lift it off, so its not too heavy. Also remove the top front radiator cover and the grill. Mounting the control box/solenoid can be a problem, depending on the winch brand. I had a 4WD SC Grande, but couldn't be bothered trying to find a spot for the box, so bought a TJM winch which lines up all the controls with the access holes and mounts the box to the side of winch.
i would try and cable up the controller to winch wires and get all the water boots in place before bolting in, as there is not much room once in.

I installed mine with the help of a mate on a Saturday... with all the bolts, wiring - looking for a place for the winch-isolator switch, etc... 4-5 hours
I am sure the TJM guys do it in 3 hours, but they have all the know how.
** Mark the BAR on the sub-frame before you remove it. Saves you a while to re-align it as it was (I used white-paint marker)
** if it is a TJM Winch - you have to cut a bit more (about 5mm) from the bumper so that it does not damage the controller box of the winch...

It is not a simple job and you have to remove the bar - no way you can slip it in.

I had the TJM torq winch installed recently by TJM, TJM only quoted and charged 3 hours for the install, inclusive of all the wiring, isolated switches, testing etc.
