  • Prado 150 rims on a 120

I'm looking at replacing the rims and tires on my 120 series with a set of standard 150 series rims like the picture and Bridgestone Dueler A/T 697 rubber.

Has anyone done this, if so will the spare fit on the rear door without any modifications?

    Thanks.

This has been discussed on Facebook, from memory the offset is different - thus reducing the width/track by 10-20mm.

It's the other way round. Track is increased by 10mm.

Yes the offset is 10mm wider and i'd read someone doing this before, but there was no mention if the offset change caused problems hanging the spare on the door. I'm just getting over surgery so was hoping to avoid having to modify the rear bracket.

Ok just an update, bought the 150 rims and ordered 5 Pirelli Scorpion ATR in 265/65/R17 at $224 a piece from Tyresales.com.au and had them fitted today. This is how they look on the 120 if anyone is considering doing this:

Have given these Pirelli Scorpions a workout in the week or so I've had them and have done terrain types such as freeway, dirt, mud, snow, wet, rocks etc and they are deceptively good given the sedate looking tread pattern and have a lot of grip. They are a great all purpose tire, and so far they don't have the habit of picking up rocks and firing them out at speed like the Duelers on my last Prado done which is a bonus.

They are also quiet on the blacktop, and no notable fuel increase compared to the HT's that were on the car before. No idea on long term wear (others report high k's from them), but so far so good.

I too am looking to change to the 150 wheels. The extra 10mm will help with clearance to the stub axle and rubbing on the chassis with the 265/70/17s and lift.

                Now to find some.

There were a few tyre comparison tests done a few years ago through a few different 4wd magazines. The Pirelli came out on top in the tests, with the B/Stone 697 coming 2nd. The only place the Pirelli fell down compared to the B/stone was on sand driving steering response. Only because the B/stone has a square shoulder compared to the rounded Pirelli.

I ran a set of the Pirelli's on my old Hilux. When I sold the Hilux, I had put 78,000kms on the tyres and they still had 3mm of tread left above the tred wear indicator. About 8,000kms of that millage was off road.

Would I buy them again? Definately.
