  • Unhappy with the Dealer Paint Repair

I had a paint bubble issue which the deal advised that they can fix by getting it painted under warranty so i drooped my car off last Monday and was told to pick it up on Friday. When i went to pick it up i noticed there were now extra marks on the rear mud flaps and the rear door trim which the dealer told me are wax residue. i also noticed that on the edge of the rear door next to where they fixed the bubble mark the clear is scratched which i pointed out to the service manager. I called the dealer yesterday to see whats going on and was advised they they will try and buff out the wax residue and tried moving the blame over to me by saying "is there any possibility that the mark on the clear was made by you" and they will try and touch it up. If i knew it was going to be such a hassle and break something else while fixing something i would have just left the paint bubble and got on with it.
I am going to stand by the fact that if the car isn't returned to me the way i gave it in to the service manager that i wouldn't sign off on it when its ready. Does that sound reasonable? has anyone else had similar issues?

Sounds reasonable to me. It's under warranty, they should fix it properly.

I had wax residue issues with a paint job recently (not the prado though). Took it back and showed them and they fixed it on the spot.

The saga continues they said its they mistake n they r ok with painting the rear tailgate. I don't know if I am ok with that on a car with 5000km having the whole rear painted? Would u be ok with it??

Depending on how bad it is, you need to decide if you can live with it as is. Due to colour matching issues they always have to paint a lot further than the repair.

If you are planning to use it properly then the paint will get a lot more 'blemishes' and scratches. I know it's hard with a new car, but I would probably let it go. Unlike most cars I think 4WDs look better once they have accumulated some character.

Always the way isn't it. I personally would be okay with the removal of the rear tail gate and having it repainted. Like when you have an accident and a panel needs to be replaced and sprayed to colour match. Hopefully the buck stops with the panel beater's paint job.

I'm going through something similar at the moment, well 60 cars owners are at my work are, where a company nearby had a little accident with quick lime and a lot of it got airborne from a spillage or something and it blanketed people's cars all over the place and houses, as well as businesses car parks, lots of footpath and the road out front. Lime dust covered cars so thick it was like a volcano erupted nearby and we got blanketed in the ash fallout. Of course, since it corrosive on metal, plastics and paint work it's left a nice etching on all of our cars. The plastic bumpers of new cars look like they've been acid washed and stripped of colour in patches & blotches and steaks. Paint on all the cars is now rough to touch, etched to look at and basically aged them by 30 years within a matter of hours, some worse than others. Just absolutely sh*t house excuse my French. The said company has spent the last 2 days alone cleaning up the mess on their front car park while wearing bio suits and full respiratory masks and draining & removing water tanks and associated plumping from the homes nearby. They poured sand on all of it on the front land of their business and there's a lot of land there, and a long high ridge of sand across their entrance in to prevent any from reaching the storm water drains should water wash it down. Too late for that. All the bitumen in the area was white with it. The grass was whitish and dusty with it to walk on. They're a bit slow to react, or be apologetic or anything really. No advice, no health advice, but they will have a car detailer see what they can do sometime in the near future. Their only soul bit of advice to our boss after he went over to raise the issue with them was to wash our cars that afternoon before going home and parking the cars for the night. We got a very light shower that afternoon didn't we and of course the quicklime reacts with a light mist of water in a not so good way doesn't it. We're just wondering if they're going to play the denial card when their car detailer examines the damage caused within the next few days. They may even shift the blame onto us by telling us we didn't wash our cars in a timely manner as per their advice, who knows... But expecting it.

Good luck with your issue skirulz and I hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction.

how do you scratch the inside door handle when the only thing you have to fix is a small bubble in the rear bumper. So far the damages to the car are:
              1. both mud flaps
              2. Rear tail Gate
              3. inside door trim

if anyone needs to get their car issues fixed under warranty and it needs to be painted etc stay clear from Colour FX in narrellan which is the local Toyota dealers authorised repairer. The workman ship is non existent and i dont know why the local toyota dealer uses them when they do such a bad job. After this experience i might stay clear of this dealer as well when it comes to upgrading the prado since this the type of after sales service is being provided.

also called the Toyota customer guest experience for provide my feedback and disappointment so they can at least make a case and they advise they will let the guest experience person know at the dealer who will raise it with management. Fingers cross no one else goes through such a hassle for something so small.
