I bought a spare serpentine belt for the above vehicle - not that I need one but my 4x4 club requires members to carry certain spares on long trips. Advice from this forum suggests replacing the originals with the spares then you can be assured that when the time comes the items in the toolbox will fit. I took the belt home and after wresting with the belt tensioner on the Prado managed to get the existing belt off but then noticed they were different. Better for me to find this out at home then out in the back of whoop whoop.
My question is does the tensioner click back out of the way or do you have to hold the tensioner with one hand while trying to remove the belt with the other. When I tried to levering the tensioner clockwise it seems to come hard up against something and springs back when the pressure is released. I had a look at other threads explaining how to change belts but none address this issue.
Any advice would be appreciated.
