  • Auto door lock not working

I've been getting 5 beeps instead of the usual 1 beep when I lock and unlock the car. Just realised that the passenger door is not locking /unlocking.

Anyone have experience or advice regarding the problem and fix? Thanks

Some further info just in case someone else has this problem in the future.

Solved the problem by taking apart the door and removing the lock actuator. Cleaned everything including electrical connections, put it back together and seems to be working.

Took a while to find the part number 69040-42241. Rang Toyota regarding the part, $350, then found it on Amayama for $150.

Just a quick update for anyone whose door lock actuator stops working. This is a Chinese replacement part that costs about $30-40. It is identical to the OEM, you just need to specify left/right.

do you think it was an electrical or mechanical issue inside the lock? was the little motor working ?

Apparently it's the little motor that stops working. I tried pulling it apart, what a PITA and good luck putting it back together.

            Hey Krypto
            I have a 2013 Kakadu
I scraped the left door slightly & now the front passenger door does not lock by remote either. Maybe that was just a coincidence. I get the 5 or so beeps as well when I have locked the front passenger from the inside otherwise if unlocked all other doors lock & the front passenger stays unlocked.

            1. How did you go getting the door trim off?
            2. Did the lock work again when you cleaned it or did you require the new lock actuator?

The 5 beeps means it's not unlocking, but doesn't tell you any more than that.

              To get the door trim off;
              1. Pull the small black trim off next to the mirror at the front of the door.
              2. Pull off the trim on the door grab handle and remove the two screws underneath.
              3. Pull out the small black trim behind the inside door lock handle and remove the screw.
              4. Pull the door trim straight off starting at the bottom, it's just clipped in all the way around. Watch out for the electric connections as you pull it out.
              5. Remove the 3 torx bolts and then slide out the lock assembly. There is a tricky steel rod that you have to slide back into the lock when you refit it.
              6. Spray heels of lube into the lock and check all connections.

Easier than it sounds, 30 minute job. Mines working but I've got the Chinese knock off handy if it stops working again.

                Thanks mate
After reading that you still have not replaced your unit I figure a $4 can of WD & 30 mins sounds hopeful for me too. I'll see how it goes.
                Appreciate the guidance

After being too busy to remove the door panel after a week or so following the lock problem.. the door lock has come good on its own without any intervention from me... go figure.

Work the door manually up and down using the auto lock at the same time. If the lock tries to move, then it is a frozen lock. Use a hair dryer to heat the lock.
For a moment I thought you were serious, then I read this.

                      Hi Krypto

I know that this is an old post, but how did you go with the Chinese lock. My front passenger lock is starting to play up. Genuine is now $400 with a 6 week wait. I have found an online company in Victoria that have the same part number you bought for $156, two weeks delivery.

                      Regards

                      Craig.

Thanks Guys. I will look up Amayama.
My previous Hilux did the same thing, same door years ago and I was able to buy one online from Thailand.
                            Cheers
