i was in the same prediciment and i just bought a 2013 toyota prado VX with 52000 on the clock for 46k. so happy cannot wait to pick it up!

originally I wanted to pay about 30-35k for a second hand prado, but then I realised every year went up about $4k in value - there was a pretty linear curve with this. So I just decided to get a brand new one as there wasn't the typical "first two years and you lose 30% of the value".
That said, if I were to do it again, I probably wouldn't have gone brand new... and I probably wouldn't have gone diesel as I don't tow a boat or caravan.
What would I have done differently?
1. Gone petrol. There's no injector issues. There's no DPF as far as I am aware (could be untrue). I wouldn't mind a bit more response on the highway.
2. Gone 3-7years old, either unmodified or just with a front bar and tow/rear bar.
3. I take the infotainment very seriously when I consider the age of a car - and it's a toyota, so it's pretty shit infotainment regardless - so find it worth considering the aftermarket replacement for the head unit. I still would have gone GXL for the tri-zone climate control. But I am considering replacing the head unit with an alibaba android unit at some point. There's an obvious risk with this but I'm weighing up my options.
4. I would not have had my bar work painted. Personally I think it's a waste of money as black looks good on any colour, but when it's a white car it looks extra awesome when painted.
