  • CV shaft removal

    Hi all, new member here.

I have searched through all the old post regarding CV shaft removal and just need some clarification on the nut size. Some posts say 35mm while others say 36mm. Can anyone shed some light on the correct size socket is required to do this job?

    Thanks
    Adam

It's 35mm. Same as the 90 series. When I replaced my cv shafts a short time ago I just bought a 35mm impact wrench socket. I bought a 750mm breaker bar off eBay for $50 and undid those axle nuts easy peasy with barely any effort. Took little effort tightening back up too because you're bearing your weight down onto the torque wrench. Loosen the nut with the tyre still on the ground, and tighten it back up with the tyre on the ground with 2 wheel nuts tightened. If you haven't done it before it's a fairly easy job. Not one I'd like to do on the side of a bush track, but at home in the garage with the right tools and a couple of swear words thrown in along the way it's not too much trouble... Even for someone learning as you go. Might need a short crow bar to pry the inner splines out of the diff if you cannot pull the shaft out. Lightly grease those splines on the new one when putting back in to hopefully make future removal easier. With the first axle nut I tightened I was concerned about applying too much pre load to the wheel bearing so only tightened to 200nm. But need not worry as I later found out when speaking to a mechanic, no matter how tight you do that nut up it has absolutely no impact whatsoever on the wheel bearing as they're separated units. Tighten it back up to the proper 230nm spec or whatever it is.

    Best of luck Adam.
