  • Adding an LED Rear Light to the PRADO

    Hi Guys,

I have an electrical question regarding fitting a 6" LED Light Bar to the rear of my Prado.
Ive fitted it to back of my flat rack roof rack. Right in the center and on a nice angle so it points down and doesn't hit the rear wing.

I want to be able to turn it on and off as I please, so I don't want to hook it into the reversing light circuit.
I have a 4wd Supacentre wiring harness, and OEM switch for the dash, but my question is, how do I modify the harness so I don't have to hook it into the high-beam circuit? Is it as simple as closing the circuit in the wiring harness (effectively the same as the highbeam is on all the time, but not connected to it? (joining the wire in and out?))

    Any helpful advise is welcome.

    Cheers!

Steve it can be done as I have my work vehicle wired this way except the light is a roof flashing amber. Without knowing how it was done (I am sure someone here will provide the tech advice) the auto-leccies have connected it to my reversing lights however it only comes on when I activated it with the switch on the front dash. The same circuit and same switch activates my reversing sqwuarker (?). Only commented as you said you didn't want to hook into the reversing lights so wanted to let you know it can be done and switched accordingly

The cabling runs out of the top of the taillight lens in split tubing and is fixed to the roof rails and a deustch (?) plug installed. Looks very neat and I hardly even notice it.

No reason you couldnt do it with either 2 relays or a Diode and have it on an independent switch or reverse light activated on the one circuit?

Quick sketch of how you could wire with 2 relays so auto with reverse lights and also manual when wanted.
