I've struck an issue trying to install the Toyota parts for the Prado 150 Inner Guard patch kit.
FYI my Prado is 2012 GXL Petrol (pre facelift)
I sourced the parts for both sides as per parts listings mentioned here on Pradopoint, and set about installing them. The passenger side was a breeze - a small amount of widening of one of the holes was required, a few holes drilled + treated and that was it - fitted like a glove.
I then started on the driver's side, and quickly started screwing my face up with confusion. The patch panel doesn't even come close to fitting. Upon closer inspection it looks like my drivers side inner guard already has some sort of 2nd skin/patch attached, but not one that is anything like the patch panel I acquired from Toyota - and it is this existing 2nd skin/patch which make the proper patch panel not even come close to fitting.
The 2nd skin/patch only covers the vertical face of the guard, and does extend up onto the horizontal surface (ie. the area above the wheel, onto which the airbox and such is mounted above inside the engine bay). It looks like a proper pressed part, like it's from Toyota.
To explain further, I took photos of a colleague's 2010 150 Prado's driver side inner guard to show the difference. You can clearly see it is, like my passenger side, a single piece of pressed metal that makes up the inner guard. You can then see in the photos of mine, that there is clearly two sheets welded together to make up that horizontal area of the driver's side inner guard.

Can anybody shed any light on what this additional piece is? Is it another part that Toyota do to strengthen the inner guard (ie. then perhaps no further action required by me)?
