  • DAB stations

    Hi,
I have a 2015 VX, and notice the standard DAB is not picking up all the radio stations IN Perth, has anyone encountered this problem? How i know it is missing DAB station, coz on the loan 2016 RAV4, the DAB had alot more stations, and when i check with toyota dealer they said to do a re-tune but it didnt work. Just wanted to know if anyone has seen this, or maybe the DAB in the RAV 4 is more powerful?

    Thanks

I cant really be much help but you have touched on my favourite subject to moan about, the head unit in our vehicles. You may have read some of my posts complaining about the out of date maps and the lack of android auto etc that we have to put up with.
I have a 2015 GXL which doesn't have DAB so I wonder is your VX head unit a similar Fujitsu Ten with a more elaborate tuner or a different model?
I guess that the tuning is completely automatic so it should find all the stations available? I cant believe that the RAV4 would have a more sensitive tuner than a VX Prado! What I can tell you is that a quite expensive "Pure" DAB radio finds no more stations than a $20 cheapo DAB from Kmart. This is south of Perth almost to Mandurah, I don't know where the transmitter for DAB is but suggest if you try a scan quite near to the transmitter and still don't get the full station list then complain to the dealer and do not let up until they fix the issue. Best of luck.

I was curious so searched for DAB reception in Perth area. The ABC website has some maps which show the transmitter as being in the hills with reasonable coverage both north and south of the city. Another website called digitalradioplus.com.au has a channels list of all channels available.
This website also has as I mentioned in my first post about scanning this note "Remember - when first tuning your radio in - it is important to set the radio to "Full Scan" and not "Local Scan" when searching for stations."
I don't expect it would be that simple but maybe worth a look in the menu?

Hi JohnLynn, Thanks for your input. I have check and retune many times and still no luck. see picture attached. Look like a trip to the dealership is required.

Would you need to tick the DAB Alternate Frequency box?

I had the same issue. Turns out I had to "seek" up and down while the DAB radio is playing and it picks up a whole bunch of new stations.

Set your presets after seeking and youll be good to go.

Nice post. I feel I have the same issue and will try the "Seek" solution. Does anyone in Perth have either of the below issues with the DAB?

                - ABC 720 does not seem to broadcast sport. I needed to switch over to AM 720 to listen to the cricket last summer. This could be that 720 digital is not a direct digital broadcast of AM 720, however I have had other stations displaying under an incorrect name and needed re scanning.

                - Triple J seems to broadcast at a much lower volume... or the Radio does not pick up the broadcast in the someway. Listen to Nova and set an appropriate volume then switch to JJJ. Does your stereo suddenly sound quiet and very poor quality? (I need a volume of 45+ to make JJJ sound half decent)

                  Selthy,

ABC 720 like 702 in Sydney will continue to broadcast the local programming while the sport is broadcast on the ABC Grandstand station.

You will find a lower volume on a number of the DAB stations. I think its because they don't compress the sound like they do on the non-digital stations.

I wouldn't say I get "very bad" reception,, however I certaainly get drop outs. I mainly listen to tripleJ and occasionally Nova. Drop outs occur in underground carparks, in a certain shopping centre and along the coast.

Does anyone know if ABC Grandstand (cricket and football) has a digital broadcast?

Does anyone know if there is a unit that I can connect to my 2014 GXL radio that can give me DAB radio?
