  • Creative way to store water inside car

Repairing second hand drawer system I bought and while they are being dismantled and built correctly I am looking at ways to add a 40+ litre water storage.

Pics, tips suggestions more than welcome,
$630 for SS 40Litre unit from ORS (Sydney based), what other options are suitable/popular?

    Thanks for looking

I got a custom made 50L bladder that hangs from the cargo barrier (Kaon) and occupies the space between the rear of the back seat and the front of the Drifta drawer/fridge setup. Filler point is just above the shoulder of the rear left passenger and the outlet just at their feet. Was absolutely great on our recent trip across the Simspon. Filled it up in Melbourne, so we had Melbourne Water rather than bore or rain water. I think it cost me $150. http://fleximake.com.au/Home/EachPro...9-4aaa89fc3f75 but in a 1 meter length.

I using a custom made flexible bladder as well.
It is sitting between my cargo box (three drawers high) and the right cargo trim (where the third seat is attached)
Uses the space very well (70 Liters) which I otherwise could hardly use.
Did the trick for more than three years and some long trip like the Madigan line.
But be aware of the downside as they can obviously get punctured reactively easily.
I had a leak after some 12 month developing without any apparent reason. Patching was reactively easy with a a repair patch which came with the flexitank.

Saying that I have seem stainless steel tanks leaking as well from a metal tent peg rubbing on the surface.
After a few days on corrugations it made it through and was ways more difficult to repair on a trip.

Plastic tanks seems to be are quite robust (I am using some as fuel jerry cans, plenty of scrub marks but no leaks so far) but depending on what plastic is used they are almost impossible to repair (no plastic welding or glueing depending on material).
You could plug a smaller hole e.g with a screw and a washer depending on where a leak occurs.

For sure custom tanks in plastic and stainless steel are ways more expensive than the flexitank bladder

So like always, advantages and disadvantages

        Cheers
        Mike

So far I have used packs of 6 x 2L bottled water. That way if one is damaged you only lose 2L. They also pack easily into small spaces.

That tank does look good, though.

I've used 3 @ 20L water bladders for years that fit snug behind the front seats. They're hard wearing, can take multiple tumbles and still not get a puncture, and when empty are callapsable and take up no space. On long trips I also store many bottles of water throughout the car during packing. They tuck in anywhere and everywhere and fill what would've otherwise been empty pockets of space. My same 3 water bladders have done 2 Cape York trips and half a dozen trips to Fraser.
I like the concept of the tank that fits behind the front seats though. I toyed with the he idea of buying one for years, just never got around to it I guess.
