  • Changing fuel injectors? is it hard?

I'm thinking of changing my injectors. The car has 240,000+km's, dunno if it's been done before and bank 1 of the exhaust is randomly throwing o2 sensor errors (and it's not the sensor or the cat). The only other thing I can think it would be is 1 of the 3 injectors on that side of the engine/exhaust. There is a very slow miss randomly at idle too which may be a clue.
I found this post: http://www.pradopoint.com.au/entry.p...ss-in-the-shed.. which explains it but was hoping for some pics etc if anyone has them. I've never changed fuel injectors before (I do other basic servicing myself like oil, filters and brakes).
2007 GXL V6 - ARB Bullbar with LED lights, snorkel, extractors, 2 1/4" dual exhaust, K&N filter, dimpled/slotted rotors, headrest dvd players, Ebay Satnav/reverse camera, GME 3100TX, Tigerz11 Side awning on custom brackets with Maxtrax mounts, 300W Invertor, ARB Underbody protection, Lightbar and STZ 265/70 tyres.
Wish list in order I'll get them: Sliders, 2" lift, E-locker, Winch bar with winch.

How do you know it's not the sensor (there's 4 in total, 2 a side. btw) and the cats (2) ?
Mine has 270k and also randomly throws a code. I replaced bank 1 and then bank 2 started. I'll get around to replacing that one when I can be bothered.

I have a code scanner. I swapped the o2 sensor (pre cat is af sensor) from bank 1 to 2 and vise versa. The code stayed on the same side.

I do lots of servicing work on all our cars, but after watching someone do injectors there is simply no way I would attempt it.
You need a good fitter who is very experienced with Prados in my opinion, with all the right tools, access to the Toyota service information etc.
        Honestly.

Have you considered a wiring issue? I had same symptoms on my other car. It ended up being a plug on the car side not the sensor.

Pre cat is an o2 sensor there is 4 of them on a V6.
Their is only an af (air flow) on the inlet.

Depending on year of v6 model the o2 sensor post cat can be a different model left to right as well.

Are you referring to petrol or D4D injectors?

Presuming that he is referring to D4D injectors.

I am thinking about replacing mine - but I have heard that the lower O2 sensors can go out and not throw a code.

Not to be too off topic, but how can one tell if the cats are blocked?

Petrol by the looks of his signature as well as talking about sides of the engine. Unless he's lucky enough to own a v8 d4d Prado :-)

Petrol engine. Hence why it's in the petrol group.

Read up the thread, there is someone who I think has a diesel. Changing injectors on a petrol is as hard as doing the spark plugs.

The worst bit would be removing the intake manifold...

I did my 4.0l injectors last week after having a misfire in overdrive.

Drivers side took me at most 30mins from start to finish. Passenger side took me another hour and a half because the entire plastic inlet has to come off.

                      I HAVE A TIP!!

Toyota say drain coolant for the throttle body lines. I unbolted my throttle body from the plenum and left it on the car to save mucking around with coolant

Was from a private contact. They have all the genuine marks om them so not sure if he got them from the original manufacturer or not . Original injectors are made by densos sister company
