  • Stone Stomper and Prado 150 OEM Exhaust

Chasing some advice from Prado 150 owners that use a stone stomper and have the OEM exhaust.

Have you had a "turn down" exhaust tip fitted as per Christian's recomendation or did you stick with the factory configuration that is angled slightly towards the ground already?

I am about to fit a stone stomper and don't want to get the current exhaust modified if I can avoid it as the whole setup will be changed in another month or so, but with that said I am about to embark on a 4k trip and don't want to burn the stone stomper before I get back!

We have a 120 but we did this when we got the new camper and stone stomper.

Local muffler place added the bend so exhaust facing the road after Christian suggested it. Was a few years ago and I think he charged about $50 as a quick job.

Would recommend getting done to protect the canvas flap. We did a 16,000 km trip and the stomper never removed, it is slightly dark on that section due to exhaust smoke but not damaged. Great product

Did the same as Mark and cost the same. As with his, just a smudge of black from the smoke. Really worth the $50.

I didn't do with my 120, gets a bit of soot on it where the is but I just wash it off with the pressure cleaner after a trip. If your travelling the north the red dust will stain the stone stomper just as much as the soot and the pressure washer does a good job of removing both.

We've got a Stone Stomper and standard 150 GXL diesel exhaust. There are black stains on the canvas from the exhaust but that's all after a few years and 40,000-50,000kms. It hasn't got burnt - I don't think the exhaust is that hot. If you take it onto dirt roads for a while the canvas will get dirty anyway so for us it isn't a big issue.

Same as above, all standard and no problems but not many km. About 4,000.

Standard exhaust. Stomper is fine. Don't forget, unlike Terrain Tamers, that flap is horizontal while travelling. I suspect its more to cover the gap to the mesh, not deflect rocks downwards.

Whilst ours is a 120 we still have the standard tailpipe. Ours is a petrol, don't know if there is much difference in exhaust gas temp compared to diesel.

Thanks for the reply's and info everyone, I didn't get a chance to post back to the thread before we left on a trip.

Anyway, my setup is pretty much identical to what mjrandom has posted (Prado and MK4 Tvan) with the stone stomper. I ended up fitting the stomper and dropped into the exhaust place as we were heading away. The exhaust shop thought that fitting a 45 bend to direct the tip out the side was a better option than going straight down, so did this for the grand total of $40.

On return from our 4,000 km maiden Tvan voyage up to coral bay and then across to Karajini with the stone stomper fitted, the result was as other suggested with the corner of the canvas flap black from soot and the rest of it stained red from dust anyway, so it was probably a waste of $40 in the end.

My next mod will be a full exhaust and tune (trying to find a bit more fuel economy towing), this time i will stick with the straight tip down turned to the ground. My experience with the side exit on the standard exhaust is you would just about need a 90 degree bend behind the factory muffer to get the tip far enough forward to not cover the stone stomper in soot anyway.

Mjrandom, off topic question but do you have the standard Toyota towbar and did you use the spacer plate to lift the mounting bar/canvas flaps, or just mount it to the top 2 holes on the "L" shaped bracket? How is your clearance with the DO35 hitch when coupled and the "L" shaped bracket, I found the pivot pins on mine get very close when turning sharp?
