Yes the camera gets mounted on the rear window near the top in an area the rear windscreen wiper covers. The cable runs under the trim surrounding the rear window, down in to the door and then through the wiring loom conduit that passes from the door to the car on the drivers side. This way the wiring is completely hidden and nothing can get snagged.

I went down to the prado last night and sat in the back looking and thought of the same thing after a while. Cheers for that. It would make it completely seamless.

Yes i followed this guide http://www.lcool.org/technical/120_s...ra/camera.html and installed the reversing camera to hook up to the head unit as well. That one is installed above the number plate you can see in my tire thread here. So if you have plans on a reverse cam as well as rear dash cam it can pay to run them both at once.

I have had a number of Dashcams over the years, but recently upgraded to a Thinkware F770, these do run 1080, have a very good phone app for viewing and settings, and you can also upload speed & traffic cameras, and also has crash avoidance and lane departure warning..... Very neat unit.

Regarding image quality, three things are important.
1. Resolution. Higher is better, but 1080P is good enough.
2. FPS. At least 30 fps at high resolution. From my research, 1080P at 60fps is better than 1440p at 30fps at days.
3. the quality of the light sensor. This is probably the most important thing if you want a good image at night.

The processor affects that performance, so you can always look at what brand and spec the processor is.
