  • Knocking Noise When Reversing

    Hi all,

I am hoping to get a few ideas from you in regards to an issue that I am having with my 98 Prado Petrol 5 speed manual.

I have searched and searched for possible solutions but everything I find is not really related.

So when I am reversing/rolling backwards I am getting a knocking noise coming from the front passenger side. The faster I go backwards
the faster the knock happens. It does not happen when going forwards.

The noise happens when in reverse clutch out, in reverse clutch in.
In 1st gear rolling backwards with clutch in obviously( my driveway is on a hill)

On the weekend I replaced the front left CV shaft thinking this is what it is but this did not fix the problem.

I'm just a home mechanic so any ideas would be greatly appreciated

    Jon

Not sure what you mean Carco. Are you saying they are going too fast?

The frequency of the knocking noise, is it slow like the tyre rotation speed or fast like the tailshaft rotation speed?
