After having replaced all my injectors & pipes, I decided to embark on a caravan trip from Melbourne up to Darwin.
The car performed flawlessly until we crossed the Nullarbor heading back to Melbourne, approx. 250Km west of Ceduna we encountered a faint Diesel smell whilst driving. After stopping the car, I found the number 4 Injector pipe was leaking near the connection to the common rail. After I travelled a further 45Km to where I could obtain mobile reception
RACV was contacted and arranged for both the caravan & Prado to be transported the rest of the way to Ceduna. The Local HOLDEN dealer was exceptionally helpful, they arranged and fitted a new replacement injector pipe with the whole job only taking 3 hour @ a cost of $378 ( how cheap was that).
When I went to pick up the Prado, the mechanic who did the job informed me that the injector had a crack just beneath the nut connecting the Injector to the common rail.
He also advised that the cracking may have occurred as a result of MISSING Injector Pipe support/clamp which should have been bolted to the engine. WE suspect that vibration caused the pipe to rub against the inside of the nut resulting in metal fatigue / cracking.
Missing Bolt & Clamp ???
Cheers
