  • Timing belt parts+ water pump, orig or aftermarket

Hey everyone I know there's heaps of pages on this so bare with me, obviously I'm doing my timing belt and water pump been quoted from Toyota $560 in parts but can get the whole kit and everything on eBay in Dayco stuff for around the $250 mark. Thoughts? From first hand if possible. Cheers in advance for any helpful advise

When mine got done a few months ago, A mate (a mechanic) stated that the Toyota water pump came with "both sections"
where as the after market unit I presume you had to purchase something separately?
      cheers

This thread is fortuitous as I am looking to do the same next week and looking for the various parts. I prefer genuine parts but some after market brands are just as good in quality. Problem with Toyota is that you have to order every part individually whereas other brands readily supply a kit. While I purchase from ebay, this time I'm in a little of a hurry and not willing to chance the possibility, even though it may be small, that my order may not arrive. Too many hassles. Anyhow, the timing kit including hydraulic auto tensioner with water pump is $460 - $611 and these are not genuine Toyota parts!! So the $560 from Toyo is actually reasonable. Beggars belief how ebay sellers can sell it for half that cost and still make money. But then again they don't have the overheads.

Now for my model Playdoh which is a VZJ95, I've been able to source waterpump and Dayco timing kit for less than $120. Problem is kit doesn't include hydraulic auto tensioner so have to buy separate. Cheapest is Dayco on ebay for $85 but Toyota is $113. Only $30 diff and I'm thinking I'll go ahead as the whole lot of parts is still less than $250. What's the source, well Covs is changing brands and clearing out Premtech/gmb and Dayco. Premtech is Covs brand but part made by Gmb. So give them a call. If any one can help with quality parts and better prices let us know.

As an update, Covs has Gates kit with hydraulic tensioner for discounted price of $225 but while convenient it's cheaper for me to get the Toyota oem hydraulic tensioner.

For my peace of mind though, Dayco kit is with or without the hydraulic auto tensioner. in the kit without is this all that's missing?
