  • Unknown trouble with 120

    Hi Guys
I'm having little bit deeper problem. I have posted this topics under "Electrical" and no proper responses yet therefore I have decided to open a new thread with a modified comments. As last few weeks my Prado is having the following problems: (120 Series (1KD engine - Diesel-Turbo and Inter-cooler)

    1. Starter motor is not engaging - only strong "click" noise on solenoid area and not cranking. After couple of attempt it will.
    2. After 15-20 minutes of driving, suddenly ABS and Park brake lights will appear in dashboard and it will cut-off heater, AC, Power switch and traffic indicators. (hazards lights are working)
    3. ABS break is not activating and standard brake action is OK.
    4. System will return to normal after the engine is switched off and keys taken out.
    5. When you try to start again, problem will start from no-1 and continue for another 10-20 minutes driving.

When I removed the battery cable and reset, I can run two or three days without any issues, however, problem appearing without any notice and driving without indicators is very difficult for me.

As per previous threads, I have replaced IG1 fuse .I have disconnected second battery system altogether to isolate primary system for proper trouble shooting.
    Battery has been replaced.
Taken to the Toyota dealer and no faults on the computer.
ABS wires checked and seems to be OK.
Used second ignition key and no improvements.
No issues with a motor and running smoothly

    Any Ideas please?
In my opinion, starting problem and ABS/Park Brake lights issue are separate issue. However, I'm very reluctant to remove the starter motor for repair without proper conclusion.
I believe that some sort of loose connection in somewhere the point which connected to the above all circuits.
    Thanks in advance.

Firstly I would look to anything that has been done previously and check all that work if any? Next it sounds like battery. Source a new battery or borrow one if you can. Should then eliminate clicking of starter motor. Hopefully it is not a faulty starter motor. On my commodore I had a similar lights on dash showing and it turned out to be the abs module. Changed that and problem solved. Not sure if this is similar on these vehicles but worth investigating.
Thats all I've got for you so hope it helps

I had an intermittent problem with my starter on my 1KZTE not operating and I eventually took the car to an auto electrician and they overhauled the starter and the problem was fixed, cost me $299 and was done by lunchtime. I have no idea to help with your other problems.

          Cheers,

Just wondering if you solved the problem.

                Hi Guys,

                Sorry for the delay reply.

My sparky has found the loose connection within the relay box connectors (where a starter relay and other gang of relays located) and changed. second hand relay box cost me $275 and working fine now. No faults or lights. So far only 14 days gone and I did around 450 Kms on a country road.
Thank you for everyone's' kind support and I will keep posting if any development.
                Thanks again.
