  • Fuel system 150

I have the 2 tank option factory fitted.

Today i ran out of diesel , the needle was under 1/2 the range said 390 (aprox) Kms left .
The low fuel led was blinking.
I could only add 20Ltrs diesel and couldn't add any more.

Dose any one have an explanation of what could be causing this.

    Thanks

    Wayne

      I don't know.

My wife usually books it into the local Toyota dealership for the 15000Km (alleged services).
they did the 150,000 service and changed the timing belt - should it been changed then?
      Current at around 155,000Kms.

How dose one get those different looking pipe clamps (at the transfer filter ) off ? , and are they reusable ?

The fuel filter isn't part of scheduled servicing. It is replaced when needed. Which is now.

          amts.

          will get 1 ordered .
dose the hose clamps that join to the filter need to replaced as well.
They seem to be different , a pink / orange band around them but no obvious unlatching clamps.

No need to replace the clamps. They just push open with your fingers or a small screwdriver if they're a little dirty.

If its not the filter could be the transfer pump not working

I have replaced the filter and still have the same problem

When dose the fuel get xfered from rear to front tank, ie all the time , on a sensor trigger from front tank , ????
dose the pump have a dedicated fuse?

I have a factory fitted dual tank system. There is no operator input for my 2011 150.

What switches on the pump to do the transfer.

                    From an exploroz post https://www.exploroz.com/forum/43404...0-series-tanks
The 120 uses an ejector pump (no moving parts) which is located in the main tank to continuously transfer fuel from the sub tank to the main. Because it is a low pressure transfer system it just stops whenever the main is full. The fuel for the engine is drawn from the main tank at all times. So, if the main tank's full and if there is fuel in the sub tank it just transfers at the engine consumption rate.

Therefore there's no chance you will end up with "stale" fuel in your system.

The downside of this type of system is that if you hole either tank you run the risk of losing most, if not all of your fuel.

Holing the main is the most serious scenario, because it will empty out (whilst still transferring fuel from the sub). Then there's no way to transfer fuel from the sub (until at least you can get the leak fixed and engine started, which will run the ejector pump and transfer fuel :-) The problem here is that while all this is happening a lot of fuel from your sub will be transferred into the main (which is draining through the leak). So you're losing some of its contents even though it's not leaking :-(

If you hole the sub, then you just lose its contents.

With a selectable tank system ala 90 series you are afforded some protection from the first problem.

We have several of these pumps in our planes. They run automatically and never break down. Quite ingenious actually :-)

I have found the cause of the no fuel xfer.

A bad contact in the front tank that goes from the access lid to the pump.

The passenger seat needs to be removed to gain access to the top of the fuel tank for trouble shooting.

                      A few things to note
1 - the power for the recycle pump is only turned on when the engine is running ( and not when ignition is on).
2 - there should be a resistance between the 2 power pins (when the plug is removed from the top of the tank ) (the tank is still in the car)
3 - removing the tank is far easier when the car is on a hoist than when on ramps .
