  • 120 oil change

Hi guys, just doing an oil and filter change and spilt a few drops of oil when I was getting old filter off. I see there is like a drain on it. Think I'll get a bit of small plastic hose next time instead of using rags lol
Do I need to seed the oil filter with oil before I put the new one back on? Seems unlikely as it sits upside down so to speak.
    Thanks

I just put a small plastic bottle under it to catch the drain off.
Moisten the rubber ring of the filter but no need to prefill.

Cheers piggy, the bottle sounds better than my hose idea. I stood there like an idiot letting it soak into the toweling rag I had.
And yeah i always oil the new oil filter seal with the new oil I'm using. I gave that Penrite semi synthetic stuff a go, was a good price at 35% off.

The diesels run a small pipe drain from the filter base to exit beside the sump plug.
When the filter is slightly loosened, its oil drops into the same container as the sump oil.
Can't pre-fill the diesel's filter as it's mounted upside down.
The Toyota oil filter comes with the oil seal pre-greased, a nice touch.

I got some hose and routed it down next to the sump plug. No need to get more containers to catch the oil from the filter.

Thanks.....now I have another little job to do. Great idea as that little bung on the drain is a prick of a thing to get off each time.
