  • Purchase of a 2010 3-door ZR

    Hi,

I am new to this site. I am looking to purchase a 2010 ZR with 70K on the clock. One owner, bought it to tow a 2.5 ton van. Great condition & my mechanic only found a few issues in the pre-purchase inspection (leaking front left shocker & a few scratches). My issue is this. The cruise pack was fitted and so no crawl control which I assume also means no hill descent control either. I do a lot of highway driving so the radar cruise will be great but we are on the doorstep of Fraser Island and plan to go there several times a year, as well as other light to moderate off roading. I have no interest in heavy off roading like climbing rocks etc. I'd really appreciate feedback on whether crawl would be useful on Fraser and whether I should wait for a ZR with the off-road pack to become available. The great thing is the one I am looking at is 5 kms down the road. Amazing given there are only 5 for sale on carsales.com in the whole of Australia!

CRAWL appears to be quite useful

However, low tyre pressures and momentum will keep you out of trouble most of the time.

I'm assuming the cruise pack losses the rear diff lock too ?
CRAWL control and the rear locker are definetly worth it if you are going to use them

Yes, no rear diff lock. CRAWL would be nice to have in the back pocket for that 'rainy day' but I would think that with low range and centre diff lock the SWB Prado will get me most places. Like amts said, good preparation & sensible driving are the key. Would anyone recommend an after market rear diff lock (assuming that's possible)?

Definetly possible and E locker is the go

Rear locker will double its off-road capitbity
CRAWL is very impressive As well will turn all 4 even if one wheel has all the load

Daren, Mate as a owner of the SX none of the above are fitted to mine. It works great. I have fitted an Eton E-Locker for piece of mind. I would not pass up the opportunity to purchase if it suits your needs.

Hi Darren. I have a 2012 ZR with crawl control and all the other standard stuff. In reality I have only used the crawl control on a few occasions and each of these times was to see what it would do but not to save myself. So in saying that each time I have been to Fraser or other beach driving it was not needed (including the Cape). The SWB Prado is a very capable vehicle in standard form and I highly recommend either the SX or ZR.
              You will love it.

Hi Darren, I have a 2013 ZR with 36000 kms on it that will be for sale in approx. one week. Not sure if it has the offroad pack or the Highway pack. I ended up with this vehicle as part of a business sale / trade. It is on its way to me now and should be in my possession next week if you are interested. I am in Brisbane. PM me for further info if your interest. Cheers

Thanks Woopi Warrior. I bought the ZR without the crawl. While it would be a good extra, I decided it was not a deal breaker. Looking forward to getting it dirty!!
