  • 2012 gxl ARB deluxe bar rusting

hey fellas, noticed my arb bar has begun to rust in welds and all the creases on the inside will try and attach a few photos to this thread. question i had is i have approached arb in perth and they have admitted warranty and they want the car for 3 or so days to respray it, however I'm a bit concerned that they'll just respray over it and not properly strip it and seal it. has anyone else experienced the same and if so how did they go about it?

have a few more photos but you get the idea, it seems to be around creases or corners or welds/joins. also theres a few bolts/nuts that have also rusted bad.

Ask them how they intend to fix it.
I would expect the bullbar to be sandblasted and repainted.
Alot are powdercoated and turn to shit once rust gets under it.

Unfortunately, it will rust again. The way that the bullbar is put together, there will be areas where corrosion protection won't get to. So no matter how much you electroplate it or prime it, you won't get into the nooks and crannies. The only way is to weld all the joints so that moisture can't get in or out. Or after painting, the joints are sealed up with sikaflex. The rust will continue underneath but in the absence of moisture, it will slow down.

i have asked them, mind you the person calling the shots im sure isnt the person that came to take a look at it the other day, its booked in for 8am tomorrow morning so im going to get whoever is in charge of making the decision to take a look at it. they initially said theyd strip it and respray it but its not ARB doing it it'l be subcontracted where they'll most likely just sand it back and respray it.
they said they wanted it for 3 days but i cant be without a car for that long so the last thing they told me was theyd try and do it in a day and on the car so im not sure how they intend on doing that. i have read other posts around where theyve replaced the bar itself which is what im hoping they will come to the table with cause this ones too far gone considering its only just a year old.

if it was like 4/5 years old and beginning to rust like a mate of mines on his d40 then i could accept that but the rust is increasing by the week and its only still quite new !.

does anyone know if ARB still have presence on pradopoint?

FWIW my Summit bar started rusting within a few weeks of delivery; they replaced the entire bar free of charge, also swapping out the bolts for my side steps (they were oxidising). I'm starting to get rust where the side steps attach to the rails too - I might have a chat to them about getting them replaced as well buuuut at the same time IMO, no amount of electroplating and paint will stop mild steel from rusting if its regularly exposed to water.

          Good luck!

They all rust! I now get mine hot dip galved then painted. It's an extra expense, but you never have to worry again.
