  • Driving experience Land Cruiser 150 , problem !

Hello , I relly need oughter owners opinion . I bought a Prado 150 from 2011 and i relly feel that the direction is very soft , when I drive at highspeed i can”t get my hands from the steering wheel because the car steers left/ right . When i drive in the town i feel in the steering wheel every bump from the road . I have checked The wheel alignment , and every component from the direction , and everything is good . Is that how the prado feels on a normal road ?I would rtelly apreciate if somebody with the same car can answer to me !

This is not my experience, but it depends on what you are comparing it to. It is a bit vague and drives more like a truck than a car, but it should be holding its line on the road. It will never be a sports car, it is a proper 4WD designed to be used off road where it performs pretty well.

Suggest that you take another one for a test drive for comparison.

Sounds like not enough caster adjustment in the wheel alignment.

Assuming the tyres are good quality and in good order, try them at about 36 PSI (AT tyres will be a bit less direct than touring tyres)
Might be the shock absorbers or steering damper?

Our 2011 150GXL bought brand new, was noticeably vague in the steering from day one.
It is a subjective topic, however I was surprised that a new car could be that vague.
So much so that I had the dealer do another alignment at the very first service, as he had assured me the alignment had been done predelivery. The vehicle constantly required steering correction in a straight line, the equivalent to a car that already had about 100,000 Kay’s of steering box wear.

After the service, it was still the same so I took it to Bob Jane Tyre Service to let them have a go.
          Result: no difference.
So I resolved that that is how they are and I’d better get used to it.
When we had the suspension done up to eliminate the severe wallowing, the alignment was done again.
The wallowing was now manageable yet the steering vagueness was still there.

            This sorted it for me.

If you are used to driving a modern road car with good ride and handling, when you then get into a Prado for the first time, you could be excused for thinking that the steering wheel is connected to the road wheels by a big rubber band.
In time you get used to it and appreciate the car for what it is. Especially if you go off road.

I was in getting some work done on my Prado the other day and it was still pretty dirty from a trip. The service guy commented that he rarely sees one that is use off road.

A lot of Prados are used as city family cars, which is not what they are designed for. We have a small modern station wagon for use around town, and if you compare the Prado to it, the Prado feels big and very vague. I actually like the relaxed feel of the Prado, but a sports car it is not.
