Gday Lads,
Had a retarded moment today when my local mechanic rang to say the standard 100K service on the GX was turning expensive as I needed brake rotors and pads as well as front struts as the current ones were leaking, injector clean, transmission flush and brake fluid flush. A total figure of $2600 crackers to which I obviously baulked at given that I was only expecting an oil and filter change.
Anyway the short of it is I pressed the go button on the rotors and pads for $495 fitted and the front struts for $850 fitted.
Now feel free to give me a heap of shit given that I'm thinking I got bent over.
As I had done zero research on struts what I want to know from the pradopoint knowledge bank is the following. I asked what struts he put in and was told a set of heavy duty KYB brand units with a 2 inch lift option later down the track. Now I cant see any distinguishing model numbers or stickers on the struts to tell me if hes put some cheap and nasty gear on the bus and is passing them off as KYB's. Have any of you fellas got any images of your KYB's? Also for that price I'd assume the coil over springs would be new as part of the struts, they look shiny but the old ones were pretty shiny too.
To top it off when I climbed under this evening for a look one of the boots on the top of the shocky is split which I assume will need to be replaced if Im to keep dirt and crud out of the hydraulics. How important is this for me to make a fuss over?
A clever invoice with no part numbers on it hasn't made things easier.
Thoughts?
Cheers
